As my CRD gets some miles on it, it occurs to me with so many folks having Torque Converter problems (the dreaded shutter), and DCX's solution being a detune and parts replacement (delaying the next round of repairs past the warranty), that someone may have approached DCX to use the Suncoast torque converter in a DCX sanctioned repair without the ECM/TCM reprogramming. Has anyone attempted this and if so, how successful was the effort? :)

I Just had my CRD in to the dealer and asked him if I could replace my TC with a Sun Coast? He said no. So if you
do it It will be on you. DC does not want to fix this problem. All they do is punt:

Torque convertor does not require any reflash - just need to be aware that if DCJ does any transmission switcheroonies, you will lose the valuable t\c unless MrMoservice is a very understanding fellow.

Hi gmctd,

Thanks for the warning -- I assume there is reason for the DCJ dealer to be somewhat underhanded to risk a switch. My understanding is that they will flash both the ECM and TCM to neuter down the torqure from the engine on the TC once they make the replacement and upgrade the TC cooler. Am I misunderstanding this?

I see you have a Suncoast. Have you been happy with the Suncoast so far?

Thanks again!

Unfortunately for this communique, the KJ is my son's ride - I'm just the wrench - the KJ was F37'ed with new pump and DCJ t\c in MAR '07, but it had the Edge Trail module installed, so there was never a question of power, just longevity\reliablity - he's not car-savvy, so I worried about the plastic stuff in the oem t\c .

The dealer is bound to the warranty schedules, so the vehicle must leave the premises with oem factory-approved equipment, as called for in the recalls - nothing underhanded about it, it's just company 'my way or the hiway' syndrome - your specialty transmission\torque conv, which shouldn't be in there in the first place, is replaced with the parts called out in the spec, or he loses his concession.

My intent was that if your Jeep is not F37 recall-compliant, dealer can't install the Suncoast version as part of the recall, and if you have it installed elsewhere, there's a good chance you will lose it if the recall is done.

As my son forfieted the 100kmi\7yr extended warranty, I just upgraded everything myself, for peace of mind - MrMoservice had better not even touch it....................

My dealer tells me I have 3/36,000 on my '06, do I have more. I thought I have an EPA mandated 5/50,000 on emissions unless that one has gone away. What is this 7/70,000 I never heard about. I did buy a Chrysler program lease turn in with 17,800 on it last Feb.

7\100kmi B/b is a purchaseable option - PO must sign it over within 30days to NO, DCJ charges ~150bbucks to transfer it.

The '05 ^ Diesels have a 5\70kmi Diesel powertrain, other '05's have the then-standard 3\36kmi warranty

Go to Jeep.com for further
