My brother lives in Atlanta and drives a 2005 CRD. He has had really good luck with his oil-burner...until now. Just the other week it started acting up. He's at 60k and now they're telling him that the EGR is "bad." He told me he hears a vacuum sound (has not pinpointed the exact location yet), and that it is nearly powerless, as if the turbo doesn't even work. I've asked him to check the air filter and turbo inlet hoses first, but....

Are there any CRD diesel wrenches in the Atlanta area that might be able to help him (at least) determine what is wrong with the truck, and (maybe) help him fix it? I'd help him out, but I'm 13 hours away.

I'm in ATL. I'm not a mechanic, but I like to think I know a decent amount about the CRD after messing with everything for the last 2 years. I'd be happy to help your brother if I can. PM me if you need more info.

Dan

Thanks for the offer Dan. PM sent. Let me know if you don't get it...it sent me to that DeBug mode page when I hit "submit."

As an aside...do you know of a good Jeep Dealership in the ATL area? The one he's dealing with sounds like a load of criminals. I remember hearing, at one point, about a dealership somewhere outside ATL that was cool and lift friendly and all that other stuff. I'd love to be able to point him that way if possible.

There was a recommentation for Decatur Ga

(and it sounds more like a blown turbo hose than EGR)

Brady......am I correct in assuming he's not the original owner and has no warranty remaining ? I'm not for certain, but I *assumed* he had 7/70 powertrain and 3/36 bumper to bumper; unless the EGR is not covered under emissions.

Shoot me a PM if you have trouble getting it checked.....I have a few Dodge / Cummins brethren in the GA area that could possibly offer some assistance.

Greg

Jeff Garmon is down in Griffin now. He is a Dodge/Cummins performance specialist. I don't know if they will work on a CRD but I'd give them a call.

Sweet! More options!

He is the original owner Greg, but he's at 60k and they are telling him that the EGR is not covered under the 7/70. I believe they also told him that the turbo is likewise not covered.

Anyone ever seen a list of what is actually supposed to be covered under the 7/70? It wouldn't surprise me if the place that he's taking it to is just BSing around until he's past 70k.

If they can't figure something out Greg, I'll give a shout and see if your Cummins friends can't help out.

Thanks again for all the continued assistance guys!

I am in Marietta, and used to wrench. I took my CRD into Ed Voyles today for a tranny shudder, window regulators, bad door, and broken ac vent. let me know if he needs help.

How do you like EV? I've only been to Atlanta Chrysler/Jeep (PTree Ind) locally and had to ask the service manager if I could speak with a service manager (I don't think he liked that but the way he answered questions made him seem illiterate or something). I've had service at Jasper Jeep and like them, but it's not worth the 50 minute drive unless you're already in the area shopping for barbeque or cowboy boots or something.

Just confirmed with another dealer that the Turbo is covered under 7/70 unless it's been abused. The EGR is under 3/36 (which doesn't help your brother).
