Title says it all, is the FCV cleanable? Mine sounds like a gear driven actuator is slipping and grinding. I figured that after my $750 fuel rail pressure solenoid replacement last month I'd be good to go for a while  Needless to say if I can avoid another trip to the dealership, I'm all over it like a fat woman on a commode 
I'm thinking that the FCV is dirty and not letting the butterfly valve move. 50K miles and this thing is really getting to me. |

sounds like you gears are slipping, just let them strip out and they will stop making noise and the problem will be solved. |

Yes it is cleanable. I cleaned mine because the butterfly was sticking closed not allowing a restart after shutdown. The gunk was very tacky. |

Pics available on this forum, somewhere - do a search - use disc-brake wheel bearing lube - always thin, never dries - SEGR\ORM couldn't hurt. |

Not that it'll help with yours if the gears are slipping, but mine was prettey straightforward to clean AFTER I got it off. I've worked on only a few more difficult places to put 4 hex bolts. It's probably easier to get at with the battery out but removing the intercooler hoses and the support bracket that bolts to the block above it gets you most of the way there. Dan |

Well, I've had MAF unplugged for about the last 30K except for about a week when I had my love/hate fuel system over-pressure issue in Dec. I pulled the CAC outlet hose off and actuated the butterfly by hand. It was very easy to move, there was no tacky build-up at all, there was however more oil residue than you can shake a stick at. Like I said, not tacky, just completely coated with oil(which I'm sure will get sticky  I guess I should do a provent ) I verified that it was open and unplugged it to keep it that way until I hear from my service guy whether the 7/70 covers it.

Any info on the 7/70 covers this? I just had my 2nd EGR rplacd under warranty(18k miles each) and I wonder if they clean it out when they replace it. |

thanks for reminding me! I called the dealer last week and he never got back to me. Since its unplugged (hence not grinding) I forgot about it. I'll call him back today and try to find out. |

dealer tells me that the FCV is not covered by the 7/70  replacement is $352.00. Aside from the whole run-away engine drawback, I wonder what the harm is in leaving it unplugged?

No harm if it's stuck in the fully open position. That's where mine has been for quite a while. |

Then it was replaced under the 36k warranty. It's not covered by the 7/70 powertrain. |

Yep, that's how I noticed mine locked up. Got home one night and it shook pretty noticeably when shut down. Been that way ever since. |
