You all may recall my fiasco of last summer (recap...IP failure, ECU failure, all freaking sensors, non warranty because I left the Cat filter on when I sent it to the dealer); well it is time for me to get a diagnosis on the suposed IP failure. Many experts have told me that the IP could not have had a catastrophic failure of this magnitude but non have had the software or drives on their test benches to diagnosis the Liberty's CP3.

Speaking with diesel heads all over the states and Canada, we deduced that the modulator (MPROP) that allows low pressure fuel to transition to the high pressure side of the pump was probably the cause. Last June there were no available parts, just the whole pump, so swapping in a new MPROP was out of the question. $2700 for the new IP and a whack more for sundries; wha-freaking-la a running Liberty. Now it will be sent a couple of provinces to the east (Winnipeg, Manitoba) for testing at Western Turbo. The gents there literally just got the software updates that allows their fancy schmancy test bench to analyze this pump. About $90 for testing and we will see what needs to be fixed.

Wish me luck...and I will post up the results

Good luck Dr. Are you going back after them if the tests prove the fault was the pump and not you?

You betcha...if'n it was a module or some other non-fuel starvation type fault; then the will be hearing from my lawyer friend. I sent the pump via Purolator and it will be on the test bench Monday morning. I may have some results the same day. I know it has been a long time between failure and follow up but Bosch just released the software last week.

I have a call in for the service guy right now....last week they had the software but not the drive for the pump. This week they may have the drive and the results.

Update - the diesel shop is waiting for a drive coupling to come from Germany, so it will be a couple of weeks before it arrives.

His last visit was Aug 08. I'm thinking his pump didn't test so well. Maybe he's still sticking it to Chrysler?
