Who is averaging 30+ mpg driving their Liberty CRD? 1. What speed range seems to be the most fuel efficient? 2. Do you have the F37? 3. Are you running a programmer or module? 4. What tires are you running and what PSI? 5. Tire size? 6. What air filter or air intake system are you running? 7. What exhaust are you running? 8. What kind of fuel (100% biodiesel, #2 diesel, or blend)? 9. Fuel additives (Power Service, TC-w3 2 stroke, etc.)? 10. Extra weight (skids, rock rails, bumpers, winches, etc.)? 11. Wind resistance (lift, roof racks, etc.)? 12. Engine oil (synthetic or non-synthetic)? 13. Engine oil weight (5W30, 15W40, etc.)? 14. Suncoast T.C.? 15. ORM? 16. Lift pump? 17. SEGR? 18. Other factors? |

I can avg a bit over 30 only if conditions are ideal. Flat road, no wind, summer diesel, speed 65 to 70. Completly stock except for something unplugged. |

I've broken 30 only twice, and then only under ideal conditions. I do way too much driving around town to AVERAGE over 30. If all my driving were all-day-long trips across the country where I could have ideal conditions (engine warm up on the PREVIOUS tank, on a highway where I could set cruise to 60 forever, no stop signs or traffic lights, flat and level road, favorable tail-wind, etc.), MAYBE I could average 30. But this is the real world here. That said, I do fairly well considering, and I AVERAGE about 26. |

Best I've hit is 26, running about 70 mph on mostly D2, with ORM. I've not hit this again with SEGR. In my recent trip to Minnesota, my best was 22 mpg running 70-75 mph with B25, nothing on the roof, and factory size tires at 45psi. I was very disappointed. New air filter, fresh oil change with 5W40 synthetic. Hopefully this thread can provide some insight into how people are hitting 30 mpg. |

The best I have averaged and verified at the pump was 32 point something. The EVIC said 34.4. That was about 58mph from Durango to Moab. I generally average about 26 puttering around town but I can average over 30 on any length of road. 1. What speed range seems to be the most fuel efficient?58mph haha 2. Do you have the F37?yes 3. Are you running a programmer or module?no 4. What tires are you running and what PSI?stock ST's at whatever PSI they happen to be at 5. Tire size?stock 6. What air filter or air intake system are you running? amsoil drop in (no noticeable change from stock though) 7. What exhaust are you running?straight pipe, no muffler 8. What kind of fuel (100% biodiesel, #2 diesel, or blend)? B20 9. Fuel additives (Power Service, TC-w3 2 stroke, etc.)?none 10. Extra weight (skids, rock rails, bumpers, winches, etc.)? skids, rock rails, and a whole heap of stuff on the roof 11. Wind resistance (lift, roof racks, etc.)?everything that one can possibly fir on the roof is there 12. Engine oil (synthetic or non-synthetic)? synthetic every 3k 13. Engine oil weight (5W30, 15W40, etc.)? don't recall... (why I write it down 14. Suncoast T.C.? nope 15. ORM? yes 16. Lift pump? no 17. SEGR? no 18. Other factors? I drive like a grandma and keep it between 1600-1800rpm |

I don't think you'll find anyone that can "average" 30mpg. I've had several tanks over 30, one just under 33 but my average is a solid 24 (anal about keeping mileage data in a spreadsheet). dieselenthusiast wrote: Who is averaging 30+ mpg driving their Liberty CRD?
1. What speed range seems to be the most fuel efficient? varies. best tank was windy mountain roads where speed ranged from 15 to 60 mph (like Durangotang, from Durango to Cortez via Red Mountain Pass) 2. Do you have the F37? Yes 3. Are you running a programmer or module? No 4. What tires are you running and what PSI? stock until a couple of weeks ago then stilll stock size but went to Big O Big Foot AT's at 44 psi (range D tire) 5. Tire size? 225/75 R16 6. What air filter or air intake system are you running? stock with Fram filter 7. What exhaust are you running? stock 8. What kind of fuel (100% biodiesel, #2 diesel, or blend)? #2 9. Fuel additives (Power Service, TC-w3 2 stroke, etc.)? once in a while PS winter for those ski trips up North 10. Extra weight (skids, rock rails, bumpers, winches, etc.)? best tank mpg had family of 4 and a Yakima rack with pod on top 11. Wind resistance (lift, roof racks, etc.)? not usually but see last ? 12. Engine oil (synthetic or non-synthetic)? shell rotella 5w-40 13. Engine oil weight (5W30, 15W40, etc.)? 14. Suncoast T.C.? not yet 15. ORM? not any more 16. Lift pump? not yet 17. SEGR? yes 18. Other factors? I've learned how to drive a diesel........ Gary |

While ideal is a very tough strech even with ideal conditions. I have also averaged 30 mpg twice on day long non-stop trips from El Paso back to Denver. Cruise set to 65 mph @ 1800 RPM. A better gauge of good highway fuel economy on a STOCK CRD is 500+ miles to the tank. With skids and HD wheels makes it a bit tougher, just be happy your not stuck w/ a gasser this summer when diesel prices adjust.... |

What do you mean with "when Diesel prices adjust" ? |

When diesel prices tend to fall below the price of gasoline per gallon during the summer months, because there isn't a demand for use as heating oil. |

1. What speed range seems to be the most fuel efficient? -- 65-70 mph. Over 70 my mileage drops fast. 2. Do you have the F37? -- Unknown. I haven't yet figured out how to tell. 3. Are you running a programmer or module? -- Nope. 4. What tires are you running and what PSI? -- Factory tires. 35 psi. 5. Tire size? -- Factory. 6. What air filter or air intake system are you running? -- I've run both a K&N (recently removed due to some of the information I've read on them) and standard FRAM paper filters. 7. What exhaust are you running? -- Factory 8. What kind of fuel (100% biodiesel, #2 diesel, or blend)? #2 Diesel until recently. My last trip down started with B50 and I only added #2 Diesel along the way. This was the lowest avg I got, just over 28 mpg. 9. Fuel additives (Power Service, TC-w3 2 stroke, etc.)? -- None 10. Extra weight (skids, rock rails, bumpers, winches, etc.)? -- I have skids. These trips are made with three ppl in the car and all the stuff carried by the typical American family on a road-trip. I also add a hitch carrier on which I keep a couple five gallon containers of fuel. Just in case I can't find a diesel station when I'm low. 11. Wind resistance (lift, roof racks, etc.)? -- No extras. 12. Engine oil (synthetic or non-synthetic)? -- Mobil 1 0w-40 full synthetic. I change every 6250. Going to try Amsoil 5w-40 at my next change. 13. Engine oil weight (5W30, 15W40, etc.)? -- 0w-40 14. Suncoast T.C.? -- Nope 15. ORM? -- Nope. SEGR on the way from UFO Monday though! 16. Lift pump? -- Nope. 17. SEGR? -- Nope 18. Other factors? I drive from central FL to upstate NY 2-3 times per year (round trip) and have averaged 28-30 mpg every trip (calculated...the jeep reports about the same though). |

That is a factor indeed - another one is the increased demand for gas caused by everyone going on holiday and taking nice trips in the good weather |

last 3 tanks have been right around 30 - 30.2 30.5 29.9 1. What speed range seems to be the most fuel efficient? - 63-65 2. Do you have the F37? - Yes 3. Are you running a programmer or module? - No 4. What tires are you running and what PSI? - 40 Nitrogen filled. Don't know if it was the nitrogen or the over inflating but mpg jumped 2 Miles per after that 5. Tire size? Stock 6. What air filter or air intake system are you running? - K&N from the previous owner 7. What exhaust are you running? - Stock for now. Its number 1 on the list of mods 8. What kind of fuel (100% biodiesel, #2 diesel, or blend)? - #2. From Speedway of all places, the tractor seems to like it best around here 9. Fuel additives (Power Service, TC-w3 2 stroke, etc.)? - None 10. Extra weight (skids, rock rails, bumpers, winches, etc.)? - None 11. Wind resistance (lift, roof racks, etc.)? - Stock rails 12. Engine oil (synthetic or non-synthetic)? - Syn. Mobil 1 0w40 13. Engine oil weight (5W30, 15W40, etc.)? - 0w40 14. Suncoast T.C.? - Not yet 15. ORM? - Not yet 16. Lift pump? - Not until warranty runs out and/or problems with fuel delivery system occur 17. SEGR? - Not yet 18. Other factors? - It can be a chore keeping that tranny in the proper gear sometimes. BTW, thanks to the moderators for finally letting me on this forum, Ive been trying for a few months now. I think I got caught up in some of the spam/bot issues in the past |

None We consistently get 20 all city driving, and 30-31 all highway if we stay under 80mph. Just came home from a 700mi road trip and we averaged a little over 29 this trip, but I had the cruise set at 87mph and it was windy almost the whole way We live in SLC, so ANY where we go is either uphill coming or going....I am sure flatlanders do better, but I am very happy with the mileage considering the environment. I wouldn't count on the old historical relationship between diesel and gas prices in the future. Now that we've switched to ULSD and our diesel fuel is of adequate quality to meet European specs, a good portion of our diesel production is being bought up and shipped to Europe to meet their demand. At the same time, Europe is dumping their excess gasoline on our market, to the extent that our refineries are throttled back to 80% capacity and we're still stockpiling inventory. |

Agreed, and the continued weakening of the US dollar is going to make this even more attractive in the future. It seems to me that beyond stuff like fully inflating tires and doing the ORM, we don't have lot of effective options for improving MPG on these Jeeps. the wind drag is just too bad, and they weigh too much. I'm going to start lightening up a bit on what I haul around in mine all the time. May also give Mobil 1 5w40 a shot on the next oil change if see if there is any difference. |
