I have a working stock fuel filter head that was replaced under warranty 5000 miles ago. Every time I check the primer it is firm and I have found no air bubbles when I have checked Is this consistent among CRDs that have installed lift pumps Just want to know. Steve |

Ya, mine too. But I am not convinced this is a good thing. Is the hand primer damaged? I tried using the hand primer to get some fuel out of the bleeder, but the plunger was stuck... seemingly not from the lift pump presure since it was off at the time. |

Yep, normal. The system will retain pressure depending on which lift pump you use. Most pumps have check valves built in so that the fuel doesn't drain back, so resistance on the primer is normal even after the pump is off. |

..the residual pressure in the circuit makes the hand primer firm. The only time time I found the primer soft is when there was air in the circuit. When I purged the air the primer became firm. With the lift pump, I have not found any air in the circuit for the last 5000 miles. What I plan to do when I change the filter in another 10,000 miles is, put a hose on the open bleeder, put the hose in a can and turn on the key to bleed out the air. I have bleed out enough air from diesel fuel systems over the years, and don't miss it any. Steve |

o verify the plunger is not stuck, press with the engine running, mine moves as if I were priming. Steve |
