OK i just got my CRD and its bone stock. I plan to put a race ready exaust cut out on it and a cold air. What programer or chip options do i have with this engine and witch one is the best? Thanks |

There is a lot of info, just start reading, downloading the write ups and set your plan. I recommend you add a lift pump, fix the biggest performance problem, before you do any thing else. Throwing a module or getting the ECM redone first would be like taking Steroids to cure the Flu. Take care of the Flu first and then mod. The next mod is to beef up the trans with a stronger torque converter like the Suncoast. No sense adding more torque and ponies with no guts to back it up. Good luck, Steve |

Thanks Ok, I'll spoon feed ya a little bit. I'm not sure what you mean by "race ready exhaust cut out" but I'm sure if you simply remove the muffler, you will be happy. Worked for me Cold air? As long as you keep the system charged with R134a you'll have plenty of cold air. Seriously, you already got one. Doesn't get any better than what you've got unless you plan on doing some deep water fording. Then you might want to start looking at other options. |

The stuff we know that works...open up the exhaust, slip in an Amsoil Ea filter (more surface area for cold air to get in) and SEGR (Stealth EGR) which lowers charged intake temps. Things that can help avoid problems...the fuel pump (to stop air in the fuel system) and the Suncoast Tranny Upgrade (to stop the shutter and eventual degradation of the Auto Tranny Torque Convertor). Then you can go the InMotion ECU reprogram route or add a "Module" for increased performance. Look down in the CTD Tech Section for a lot of info |

Exaust Cutout is an electric valve that lets you bypass the muffs and cats at the push of a button rather than doin it Arkansas style. And Im not trying to make a mud buggy or off road machine so i kinda dont want to change out the Converter. Im using this to haul my Audio stuff for my band and i live on a ranch so i need to pull small flat bed trailers and boats. The fuel pump is the thing thats week on these? |

Replacing the muffler with a straight pipe is not arkansas style. My ex's TC killed her tranny after 10K....(not to scare you away) these little buggies don't have a fuel pump but should. |

Go to the CRD Tech forum on this website (one link down from this forum on the main listing) and skim through the available threads. Most useful one is this: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=24961 The CRD is a diesel, so forget about most every idea you have for improving performance. First mods are either the ORM or SEGR (the link explains what they are). V6 airbox mod if you live in a wet climate. Cold air intake/K&N filter are a waste of money and may actually harm things (diesel sucks a lot of air and can pull in sand/dust through these filters). Depending on the mileage on the CRD, clean the MAP sensor, then do either a CCV filter (like a provent) or the elephan hose mod (if you don't mind oil in your driveway). Exhaust is 2.5" stock, good quality, except for the muffler which is too restrictive. Straight pipe or glasspack if you don't mind the sound (it's a diesel, you won't hear much), or a magna flow or flowmaster if you prefer a growl to a pop. A number of diesel pressure box-style programmers out there for the CRD. The best ones also have boost fooling (Edge Trailjammer is the one I have). Other option is to have the ECU reprogrammed (Inmotion has been doing this for a while, Kerma of VW diesel tuning fame is working on some stuff now as well). Biggest known mechanical issues are 1) crappy torque converter (if you start boosting torque with a pressure box or tuner, you will kill the stock converter eventually), and 2) poor fuel filter head design (if yours leaks it will let air into the fueling system, which causes bucking at certain speeds, can cause random engine shut downs, etc...) -- the lift pump mod people talk about will fix this (but still leave you with a poor filter). Some folks with the problem have installed a higher-quality Racor filter head and reported no more problems (without installing a lift pump). And some of us have gone many miles (25k here) with no issues with the stock unit. |

What is this lift pump you speek of? And where can i find one? The search function is your friend. Don't start paying money for mods that arnt going to help your ride go faster or live longer. |
