Post subject:  CRD sale value

Im having the hardest time in the world selling my CRD. Most people want to go off KBB, regardless of dealer prices. Private party on my CRD is only $12K Bought it new in 06 for $28K, seems kinda steep to loose more than half its value int 2 years. I have even had a couple dealers turn down the trade on it, saying they wouldn't get anything for it at auction, and there is no market for it. I have been trying to sale it since March. You name it I have had it for sale on it, cars.com autotrader, ebay, craigslist, on here, LOL, but no takers, Anyone else having the same issues? I have it priced the same or less than the ones in my area, and Im offering even to give my money to make the sale. Crazyness, never thought it would have died out so fast on the resale side...

I feel for ya. I bought an Elantra and parked the CRD. 38 mpg at $4 per gallon vs $4.80 per gallon at 28 mpg. I feel fortunate that I can pay cash and have no debt. The Liberty will be used for hauling the toyhauler and winter weather. I checked about trading the Liberty before I bought the Elantra and was lowballed badly by dealers cause it's a "diesel". Good luck!

Drive it up to Wash State or out to CA. Seems like thats were the highest selling prices are.

Maybe you should not try to sell it while the price of diesel is so much higher than gasoline. Florida is not a good diesel market, nor a market in general. It's a state full of people who over-bought their homes and can't afford their insurances.

Maybe not now, but it was hard to find a parking lot that didn't have a half dozen vanity F350 or 3500HD's jacked up with 10 inch pipes and tractor trailer wheels on it, only a year ago. But now I agree, there is a truck lot down the road from my house that has a 2007 Dodge 3500 crew diesel with a 9 inch lift for .... $16K . It just seems for the small SUV market the CRD is the way to go with out getting a hybrid for the fuel economy, Yeah that might be a stretch right now with $4.85 a gallon diesel but still...

But I still see CRD's go for 16 and 17K on eBay, and there are plenty in autotrader for about the same, maybe they are not really selling...
Mine is a lease, seems smart now, at least I have an out sooner or later. I owe about 16500 on it, but would be willing to take $14K for it. Or I guess just turn her in. Who could have ever imagined this diesel market right now...? Carzyness

More and more I see people just turning stuff over to the banks.
I just got mine, in March, since then diesel has gone up $1. a gallon, oh, well, less beer.
It was an alternative fuel experiment to me and I paid $18k for the privelege.
I see social crazyness growing more common.
What happens if gas dries up and only diesel is available?
Would you look smart then?
How would you feel then if you had paid someone to take your CRD?
The wife says I am obsessed about fuel mileage, I say fascinated.
Turn the lemons into Limeaide, if you know what I mean.
We are all in this together.

Its not that Im disappointed in the CRD, I have another paid off truck and would rather keep it and also like I said the CRD is a lease, I don't think I plan on buying out a $15K lease when I can turn around and buy a different CRD for the $10-$12K that most people are only willing to pay... WVO is even out of market here now, you cant get it for free any more, so my bio making is over, all the places I was sourced from are wanting almost $2.50 a gallon now. Then I still have to process it, I also highly doubt gas is drying up.... I have to pay out to Jeep almost $3500 plus over mileage now anyways, figured might as well try and sale. If I only had to chip in 2-3K then Im still ahead. Eh oh well... so is life. I was just wondering if many people were trying to sale and had the same issues. It was real eye opener to see the private party value fall from almost 18K to 12K in only a few short months.

Florida used cars tend to sell cheap due to the abundance of cars left by the snowbirds who have flown off and seen the WHITE LIGHT.
Do you have any relatives or friends who could sell it for you in another part of the country?

Plus everything in FL quickly turns into a rust bucket. Thus it is not so easy to transfer the vehicle out of FL and get anything for it either.

I had it for sale on criagslist and autotrader in LA, MS, AL, GA, and FL, pretty much anywhere I can drive to easy. Plus I was offering to help with plane fair and or transporting cost off eBay. Auction ended @ 12K, if they only had $3K more it would have been gone. I re-listed it, but I got a guy of Craigslist coming to see her tonight.

Post subject:  Hold your price

Crag's list has a bunch who like to flip cars where they do nothing to them except rip off those they buy from. These people are wantabe dealers, don't be afraid to tell them to,"HAVE A NICE DAY" and blow them off. I get people with Eastern European accents who waste my time and those who only want to look but never buy. The ones with the money will produce the money and not play games, I have sold the cars for my asking price, I knew what is was worth as do you.
Another problem is the, Pickup SUV paranoia being instigated by the RED DIAPER DOPER BABY NEWS MEDIA to jack up their ratings and sell more advertising to Subaru, Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi, KIA, and Hyundai. I have no idea why they treat Nissan like they treat the US and European companies.

Best of Luck, hope you find a CRD lover,

Steve

Hi! I just traded my CRD for a VW. It had 15900 miles on it ane I got $14,000 for it. The dealer has reduced his price to $15,888 I think it will be on his lot for a long time with the price of #2 being so high. My new VW is AWD, 250HP, MPG in the 20's, And since VW only allowed 5000 of them in the US It will keep it's value! Love my R32!!

Best of luck ! LK

in this vein; I'm thinking of selling mine too, payment is starting to hurt, feel like owning an FJ80 Landcruiser outright would offset the dismal mileage I'd get, plus the family and dog could go someplace together and take stuff inside instead of in the pod on top...
Dunno; in the pondering stage now, I do think living in the NW is a good thing for selling a CRD though; Eugene/Corvallis have bio-D co-ops, further north Portland and Seattle do also. if I get serious about this I'll post back.

good luck with your sale down there in the big FLA.

Since I own my CRD I don't see any sense of selling mine and have monthly payment. Even if I get bad fuel mileage saving fuel would cost me more changing vehicles. Something to think about.

I have swapped with the Wife - I roll 100 miles a day she rolls 30, so I get the Grand am @ 30 mpg and she gets my CRD.

I can not see getting rid of it - need to pull the snowmobile trailer in the winter along with the boat in the summer.

I DID sell my beater truck in the early spring luckly - 89 f150 4x4.
Talk about timing.

There is going to be a major reordering of the vehicle fleet in this country brought on by high fuel prices--prices that are likely to stay high for a long time. One of those reorderings is going to be the demise of the pickup and SUV market for those who don't actually NEED an SUV or truck--and, truthfully, that describes most SUV and pickup owners. The result is going to be the collapse of used vehicle prices for those types of vehicles, and a collapse in new SUV and truck sales. The CRD is getting a triple-whammy--somewhat undeserved--because of that. First, it is being hurt like all other SUV's generally are in this market environment. Second, it is being hammered because of the high diesel fuel price. Third, the CRD's pesky reliability problems (EGR's, etc.) have not given it a good reputation among many potential buyers--especially those with little familiarity with diesels. I don't think DC's shaky reputation these days is helping, either.

I'm keeping my CRD because it serves my needs--I actually need a 4WD for some of my work. While I'm not happy about high diesel fuel prices, the CRD's excellent fuel economy still makes it about the most cost-efficient 4WD to drive from a fuel-cost-per-mile standpoint. My only beef about the CRD is its lack of ground clearance--a Frankenlift II CRD suspension is still in this vehicle's future.

If there is any silver-lining to this cloud, it is that the people who actually have to use a 4WD for their work are going to have a terrific selection of late-model used 4WD's to select from--many probably for sale for but a small fraction of their original cost. Anybody who goes out now and buys a NEW 4WD is a fool. Not when you can buy a low-mileage late model used one for half the price of new or less. The days of driving an SUV or 4WD just because it's "cool" are about over--probably for good. I suspect the "sport" is going to be gone out of "SUV"--they will just be "utility vehicles" again.

We looked into selling the CRD, but it's true that the resale value has gone through the basement. We looked into a Highlander Hybrid, but when I ran the numbers it was cheaper to keep the CRD and buy a third vehicle. We settled on an '08 Honda Fit, and thus far we're really happy with it. We'll use the CRD for off road adventures, pulling the boat, and using it as a tow vehicle for our motorhome. It's got 40k miles on it now, and I expect it will barely have 50k miles by the time it reaches it's 5th birthday.

I sold my CRD a month ago in Europe. Same situation here, nobody wants a 4wd anymore, except for people who need one, and they will select a more robust japanese offering over a jeep (which in Denmark is a rare car).

I now got a Skoda which does 55-57MPG consistently, even with a trailer full of firewood. Happy camper here. Still want a 4wd for hobbies and sparetime stuff though :)

I'm in the same boat as soo many others, I cannot find a feasible way of selling or trading my CRD. No dealers in my area will give me more than $12k for trade and stick to MSRP on all vehicles with that offer. Most offer $10k for trade, I'm upside down on loan amount vs. trade offer no matter what. Used CRDs are selling for high prices in my area, under 50k miles is usually $15-20K even though the dealers will cut your legs off if you try and trade YOUR CRD.

WVO is hardly an option for me anymore, the logistic side of things make it hardly less expensive than getting raped at a gas station. The sad thing is that I had previously worked as an F&I manager at a Jeep dealership, I'm well aware of Chrysler brand vehicles' historically poor resale. Although diesels tend to value higher, I thought that would be the case alas for the CRD it has been nothing farther from that.

So pretty much... I'm f***ed. Buying a CRD is the single worst mistake I've ever made financially. The worst thing is that previous to owning the CRD I had a Subaru Outback which I would have had paid off next month if it had not totaled it in a bad accident in 2005. Even worse, the trade value of that Subaru would be higher than the amount that I currently OWE on my CRD if I add all the miles I've put onto my CRD to what my Outback had on it.

There's no lemonade to be made in my case :(
