Post subject:  Is the pre-f37 tranny pump a recalled part, or not.

I am preparing for the Suncoast and Other upgrades project.

I am pretty certain I do not have the upgraded pump..
No one got an upgraded pump from the factory, right?
The F37 was done in Jan 2007. On the service record... only the TC and flash. No pump listed. (darn)

Right now, the only problems (qty 2) I have with the tranny are:

1 The delayed engagement as per the TSB;

"DELAYED ENGAGEMENT AND RELATEDTRANSMISSION DTC'S
TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN
Reference Number(s): 21-007-06, Date of Issue: April 07, 2006

The dealer supposedly fixed this 6 months ago with the filter replacement, but the problem persits.

and

2. A very occasional rattle sound from the tranny, like gears not meshing up properly, after driving say 150 ft on a cold system. I could never be able to reproduce this at the dealer, I am sure.

How could I play this to get a new tranny pump under waranty ? Any ideas?
If I could get them to do the pump on warranty, I might be able to supply them with the Suncoast TC,,, while they have the tranny out, right???
I could later put the shift kit in on my own.

As a teenager I destroyed several transmissions, which I mostly paid for.
I do not advise abusing/destroying your machine but it would be as easy as drunk driving, consequences aside.
The difficult thing in this corrupt world is doing the right thing without going broke.
Chrysler is going bankrupt and might very well sell off Jeep to the Chinese as a direct result of poor product quality.
Have you asked the wife and kids for some money for parts?

Ya Robert, I know what you imply...... Evil Bill knows hows to break things on purpose. he, he, he .. geez... even Good Bill mostly breaks things he is trying to fix!

GMCTD .... I did call MR Mopar parts and he said.. no new pump in his records.

So basically your going to defraud Chrysler out of a tranny pump?

And you wonder why the automakers are going bankrupt  .

Just buy a dang pump, stop being a super tight stupid, your dishing out the $$$ for the TC so you got the money so what's some more?

Ya... ya.. no fraudulent behavior from me....really, ,, no really.

I guess the post drifted a bit from the original interntion.

I feel that I am in the right (Good Bill) for wanting the pump replaced under warranty. I am looking for advice on how to convince the dealership to do the right thing.

Recall that the original TSB that went with the f37 Customer Satifaction "recall" left the decision to replace the pump with the technician deciding if there was a rattle sound present or not. If the tech decided he could hear something... voila... new upgraded pump otherwise , just the TC (my case).

So..... there must be something wrong with the pump.. no? Just cuz mine has not bit the dust yet, making the rattle sound does not really mean that the warranty should not apply yet. They have admitted guilt, both in the TSP and indirectly in the redesign of the pump for future use.

Well if the there wasn't the rattle present at the recall fix then NO you don't diserve the pump since your pump is not bad.

Just because you want it replaced does not mean it should be replaced on someone elses dime since yours is not broken.

I just voiced what I would do if I were in that service managers position, everyone wants everything for free these days when it comes to there vehicles and it's really pissing me off and it's sad since no one is taking care of there vehicle due to being cheap a$$es.I have to put up with poeple like that everyday,I need to pay the bills and such to you know.

Oh and you would never want me as a service manager,I can pretty much tell when something is abused or should not be covered under warrenty. If it broke while in normal service, sure it's covered but abuse is not or this and that from neglect and such.

On the other hand, that first pump and cover design was defective and not long-term reliable, as verified by the oem upgrade - therefore, any owner(s) with the original defective design deserve the upgrade as much as the owners of later production vehicles - it should have been done with the tc, and not up to some dufus service manager as to who gets it and who doesn't, based on some noises in his head - the rattle doesn't indicate pump failure - it does indicate the oem defective-design torque converter is likely disintegrating - the tc but no-pump scheme is less of a drain on the SM's warranty budget - it's their bad, not yours: I say you should get the upgrade under warranty

talk with the tech about the rattle you hear and the f37 over the EXPENSIVE coffee and donuts you brought the crew at the dealership.

Enjoy your new pump.

Post subject:  POS (Piece of #####)

Bill,
Yes you paid for a vehicle that has inferior parts, yes, you deserve better.
If you and I had been smarter we would not have purchased these defective machines, but we did.
And we love it. Tell yourself that again. We love them, it makes it easier.
I replaced the springs and shocks because they were bottoming out for $1,000, I replaced the ball joints with Moogs $200 even under recall because the ball joints they were going to replace them with were still substandard. Fuel manager head, lift pump, fumoto valve, F37.....etc. I have 5,000 miles on it out of 25,000 total.
Over and over, when I go through my file of parts replaced because of Piss Poor Planning and Execution on Jeeps part I shake with rage.... Well, maybe I exagerate a lot..think SEGR, EHM, Muffler.....shaking yet, a tremmor?
When I told the dealer about the air cleaner being wet and he said the tech did not find water when he looked.
I just hope Toyota buys Jeep and they do it right.

I've been real happy with my CRD, Tons of power-great fuel mileage, It doesn't get any better than that.

It is really sad that there are so many defects with the CRD.

I just came out of pocket $850 for the Suncoast and shift kit. On top of that, I have to pay over and above what the dealer covers under warranty for the shift kit installation.

I just replaced the blower motor resistor.

I've had the fuel head replaced.

The boost control solenoid.

It's currently on it's third torque converter (the Suncoast will be the 4th)

To regain the power from the F37, I've paid for the InMotion tune.

I also added a Provent and did the ORM.

But.....

There IS NO other vehicle sold in the US that does what the CRD will do. I have no other option in my opinion. I wanted a diesel, but didn't want a big Dodge or Ford pickup. I wanted something high off the ground (I'm 6'5", and don't like "falling" into a car), it needed to get reasonable fuel milage, and be affordable.

So far, the little Jeep has been great, except for the POS transmission which Chrysler refuses to fix properly. So I have to do it myself. A small price to pay for such a great vehicle. I think the little VM Motori engine will run far longer than the body will.

X2

It was my understanding they were replacing the pumps because debris from the torque converter took them out. Not because they were defective. Parts get updated all the time. Check out how many updated parts are in a newer Chevy truck transmission. When it breaks they put newer, updated parts back in to hopefully make it better. It has always been this way. Stop whining.

Just about everything you buy comes with a standard disclaimer that goes something like this:

"Company xxx reserves the right to change or modify product and or specifications without notice or obligation"

Okay,, this is some good info. It makes some sense. The TSB mentions that , if the noise is present, change the pump and the auxillary cooler and tubing along with the pump. This indicates some concern with debris, I supose.

Don't this makes you to want to run out and buy a new vehicle,  or two with one to drive when the other is being worked on (not fixed) by the stealership.
I know I will will soon need a torque converter and pump and will have to pay for it because the transmission wasn't built strong enough to begin with. :o Chrysler/Jeep can go under and take their poor workmanship with them for all I care. I remember the good old days when the big three built quality cars with good service after the sale. Now they don't even care to build a car the has a odometer and speedometer that reads correctly. Yes the old mechanical one in a 35 year old GM car works better than the electronic ones of today. There is no excuse for poor quality.

Post subject:  changed the post title...

All,

I changed the post title.....

I did not communicate correctly what I wanted to discuss in this thread, I guess.

Given, (in my case) the continuation of the delayed engangement problem and a rattle sound during initial use, I want to know if this might be a problem with the tranny pump. Obviously the filter replacement solution did not solve the problem.

Once I have better knowledge of the potential souces of the delayed engagement, I would consider taking it to the Dealer for repair under warranty, prior to outright failure of the tranny.

If I were to speak with the service dept about this, how might I help them with the diagnosis, given the colletive expert knowledge base from this site.

Thanks for all the previous posted suggstions.
