Driving the Jeep tonight, was in a parking lot waiting for my son and wife. Started Jeep up, turned onto the street and hit the red light on the corner. When the light turned green, Jeep acted like it was starting out in 2nd gear, no pick up. Little way down the road, I thought I had the cruise set, but it didn't engage. When I looked down to see if the cruise light was on or od was off, I noticed it wasn't shifting, rpms were up around 2700-3000. Cruise light was on, but the cruise would not engage. Turned down a side street, parked and shut it off. Restarted, and shifted normal and cruise now works. Wife says she noticed the same thing the other day.

Any suggestions as to where to look? Thank goodness I have the month of August for vacation. I sense some mods coming.

Sounds to me like a software bug. I encountered my transmission wouldn't engage OD regardless of rpm and numerous O/D button hits. This was while I was driving and had just been in O/D a mile ago. Problem was cured by selecting N and going back to D. Never reproduced the problem after that.

Shift-quadrant switches giving wrong data to TCM - TCM doesn't know what gear is selected, so doesn't know how to respond - shift to N or power-cycle usually restores operation - if occurs frequently, try R&R'ing the main trans connector - if no help, need replacement switch in valve body, or replacement valve body - opportunity for a shift-kit install...............

Is your CEL on.I am having the same problem.Although Mine seems to accelerate fine up to 50 then will not shift into the higher gears.
Giving me a P0720 engine code.
If I pull over to the side of the road and shut off engine, it resets itself and is fine for awile.
Found this on internet.
