The passenger airbag warning light comes on and stays on in my CRD unless someone is sitting in the seat. When this happened I got a CEL. Anyone had to replace the sensor for the airbag in the passenger seat? |

That sounds like normal operation for the airbag........was the CEL at all related to the airbag system? what was the code? |

I think it just needs to go the the dealer for a calibration or adjustment of the seat pad |

Lewis The light suppose to come on with light load in the seat. That light lets you know the air bag is off and children and smaller than average person won't get injured. |

I know the light is supposed to come on. The problem is that the only time it goes off is if someone is sitting in the seat. And since it's starting doing that, about a week, I've had a CEL. |

SG 2 is on it's way back for latest upgrades so no codes. That's why I was wondering if anyone else had come across this. |

Mine did the same thing shortly after I got the vehicle. Took it in to the dealership and they replaced the sensor in the seat. Mine did it on the way back from Tennessee to Texas with a 12lb dog riding in the seat. Have not had any trouble since they replaced it. |

The light is supposed to be on with a small load in the seat, and off when empty or with a person sized load on it. |

My passenger airbag light did exactly this from new (lit with empty seat) but no CEL. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and they said this was normal. I said it wasn't and pointed out the paragraph in the manual that described the correct behaviour. The writer told me the manual was wrong and his Jeep mechanic had many years of experience working on these vehicles and they all worked like this. I took it to another dealer in town and they recalibrated it. No problems since. Guess who gets my business now. |

Mine started doing it from the drivers side. Turns out that something (I think it was the hard floor mat) had abraded the two wires going to the sensor and they shorted out on each other and caused the light to go off. A little electrical tape and it was good as new. |
