Historical Information? Used? New? Accessories installed?

I'm interested, I have an older 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee that might be happy with this.

How would I match this with the older transmission? It currently has an almost-new 4spd behind the v-8 block.

get a 5psd manual, 6spd manual, or get a 545RFE.

You WILL NOT be mating it to the auto trans in the ZJ.

Are those the only options, Any others? Do you know if it will bolt to an AW4 from a Cherokee?

After seeing an interior shoot of a CRD Libby across the pond, I so want a manual, but not willing to pony up the $$$

It WILL NOT boltup to an AW4, and the computer controls(TCU) will not be able to control the tranny. basically its stupid to try and mate it to an AW4.

get the right tranny to bolt to the engine(most likely a 545RFE), the tail end of that auto will boltup to any NP242, NP231, NP241 etc

I’m a subscriber to Diesel Power magazine, Diesel World magazine, Diesel Builder magazine, 4 Wheel Drive and sport utility magazine, JP magazine, and Petersen’s 4 Wheel and off Road magazine. In the last 3 months or so, I’ve seen somewhere around 5 diesel swaps using the Liberty 2.8 engine. Online, I’ve seen a few more swaps. Most of the swaps that I have seen were in different Wranglers. I have also seen the swap into a XJ Cherokee, Toyota FJ, and Toyota Tacoma. Really there are a lot of options. Either way, $2,500 for the motor, the computer, and all the wiring is a pretty good deal.

I'll have to give it some thought. I was kinda hoping to keep the transmission, since that becomes an additional expense, and the one I have in the ZJ is fairly new and works. Its just that the V8 engine is a little tired now, with north of 200k on it.

Todd at dieseltoyz is getting photos so I can post on e-bay. This was an engine that Todd was going to use himself. He went though the motor and replaced all kinds of seals, gaskets, (cam plugs and seals) and cleaned everything. A very solid motor with excellent compression. After talking to him, it would be well worth buying just to keep as an engine replacement for you CRD guys. For those of you who are thinking about a diesel swap, you will get all the wiring and computer stuff. Todd said the swap into an automatic is the cheapest and easiest. However, he mated a CRD to his manual trany in his Tacoma, nothing difficult, but he did have to fab up a trany adaptor for the manual. I'm in no hurry to sell it, but we no longer need the engine for my application and I don't want it in Todd's way either. Right now the motor is setting in San Antonio ready to be shipped out. He is guessing it will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 300-500 to ship out depending on where you are in the USA. Those living in Texas would have no problem, Darby could pick it up for FREE!

Neat shots with the engine cover removed - wish they were the type that enlarged when clicked - but I do see round intake ports, good for flow
