Post subject:  leather seats for a 06 CRD

The cloth seats in my 06 CRD stink. Water stains them. I was thinking about changing them out for leather.

Any thoughts on a good source for leather seats for the 06 liberty? I was thinking about contacting local junk yards to see if there were any liberty's with the same interior color that had leather seats. What model years seats would work in the 06?

Any help is appreciated.

I had a Katzkin kit put in. I also got heaters installed at the same time.

My wife recently got a Suzuki XL-7 (basically a slightly stretched Chevy Equinox or Pontiac Torrent). One of the conditions of her buying it was they had to put leather seats in it. They agreed to do it if we split the cost. Basically, they took to an auto interior specialty shop in Saginaw, MI. It cost a total of $1100 (us paying half of that, would have been $1000 if she didn't get the two-tone). The leather they put in is better than what the premium levels of Suzukis have. It might be step up than what's in the Jeep. The seat coverings are just slip covers anyway, so getting it replaced shouldn't too big of a job. You could look into that as a possibility too.

Let me warn you that the leather in my CRD scratches easily and gets dirty in no time because it's beige. It also feels slippery at times.

You should give your cloth trim a good clean with a hot water extraction unit, this will remove the stains and odours and you're good to go.

If you want to remove odours from your seats there's plenty of sprays you can easily apply. I've managed to remove the stench of cigarettes from my little TDI, and on my Nissan Patrol I've managed to remove dog+hunting+cigar smells completely.

It may take a few dozes or three, but it works beautifully. After removing the smell from the Nissan I had it for 1½ years and the smell never came back. I had to cover the seats and all of the interior cloth 3 or 4 times with the spray, but it was well worth the effort.

The stuff I use is sold in Denmark as "Odor-X", green bottle with a big X on it. You can also find a flavor of TurtleWax which will clean your cloth interior.

I bought neoprene covers via ebay for my Jeep when it was new. The covers cost about $ 125 if I remember right. The have been on for 3 1/2 years, show no wear and have been washed once. They are cool in summer and warm in winter. The best thing is that the cost was about 10% of leather. I only got covers for the fronts as there is almost never anyone in the back.

Not sure if they have Costco in Indiana, but they also sell very nice neoprene seat covers custom fit for various vehicles. Have to order them.

Now if they would just start carrying a 5w40 diesel oil!

If you're in UT, go to ARA in Provo and ask for Clint; He's the guy who installed my leather kit. When my seats were still cloth, I used the foam cleaner with the brush top that you can find anywhere that sell detail supplies.

They also have a location in Murray; ask for Scott there.
