Look at the hood labels on the new '09 Rams which spell out the correct amount of R-134a for the 5.0 Cummins.

It was supposed to come to market sooner (i believe mid 2009 model year) but the engine launch got pushed back 1 year. Not sure if that was due to market conditions or the flood at Cummins Plant 1 in Columbus, IN where the motor will be manufactured.

If by that you mean they went to a Vee configuration, instead of inline as God and Rudolph Diesel intended, I absolutely agree.

That is exactly what I mean. It is unnatural.

Why is that a sin. The CRD 3.0L is a V isn't it?

The last official press release on a 'light duty' diesel in the Ram is dated Jan 23, 2007. With all of the emphasis in the past few months on fuel economy why isn't Chrysler trumpeting this more?

My recommendation is to not hold your breath.

V engine configurations are against the laws of God (and man, God willing ) Inline or opposed are the only acceptable engine designs. My only V engine was a 304 in my Scout II, everything else has been inline with one exception of a POS Subaru.

UFO: What's up with the bad boy "banned from TDIclub" sig? You seem to be an active member over there. Where you reinstated after having been banned or something?

V designs are good for small spaces but are wasteful of power. The only V configuration which does not need elaborate balancing systems which are most often found as counter balanced crankshafts, is a V12. Our little I4 in the CRD uses a completely separate counter rotating balance shaft in addition to the crankshaft. V engines also need 2 separate valve trains as well as nearly twice as much oil and coolant circulation. All of these items add up to on average 30% more moving parts and rotating mass. In addition to these things which rob power from the rear wheels, the angle at which v design engines exert force on the crank shaft is not optimum for torque (good for diesels). Also very few V designs are able to have as deep of a piston throw as a straight six (good for diesels). Why do think that 8s or 4s or V6s don't rule the roads in OTR freight trucks or marine engines or gensets. All inline sixes have inherent primary and secondary balance. Here is some further reading.

inline 6's are also inherently balanced due to the firing pulses
not like our little 4.

v8's aren't too bad just due to the number of pulses - and v12's are great.

oh well - as to the original topic

I'll believe it when I see it.

With the way the economy is going.....................I don't know what we'll see for next year. As of tonight, the auto bailout talks collapse over union wages.
Even the VW dealership said yesterday that VW has decided to cut back on their TDI's. I don't know what that means, but I'm sure it's not looking good for the near future.
