Last Friday my '06 CRD started up and ran about 10 feet and quit. It would not start again. Sent it off to the Dealer and they put in 2 Fuel solenoids and said it was cured. Drove it for the rest of the week but this morning it went 20 feet and quit again. Won't start. Will go back to the dealer on Monday but I need some ideas. Could it be the injector pump? I have 35,000 miles on it. |

Have you tried bleeding the air out of the fuel system? Air in the line is a common problem with the CRD. I had issues with it after I did the CAT2 mod. I still have issues once in a while. It will just die and won't start until I bleed the air and pump the pressure back up. |

Air in the fuel is the most common - dies no engine code - and because there's no code the dealers are clueless about it. injector pump should last a long time - how long is a question due to ULSD - but 35K shouldn't be a issue (the engine's not even broken in) |

I've had the same thing happen to me when the B100 got a little chilly a couple springs ago. On a cold morning, it would only burn the fuel in the line that had already passed the filter. Everything in the tank had gelled slightly and was not passing. Pushing the jeep into the sun, plugging in the block heater, and dumping about 1/4 bottle of fuel-service got that one straightened out for me. BTW, moderators, this should maybe y go to the CRD section? Dan |

no bio diesel. Temp was in the mid 20's so I don't think jelling was a problem as we are on winter diesel now. Dealer came and got it this morning and I suggested checking the fuel lines for air. We will see but I have been lucky it quit both times in the drive instead of somewhere else. I would be pissed if I had to walk a few miles to a telephone. |

If i were you, I'd be pissed if it turned out just to be air in fuel (and they missed it more than once...) let us know what they find, though. |

Which fuel solenoids did they replace? Did you get a CEL? What were the DTC codes that were produced? |

So far they have replaced two fuel solenoids, the injector pump, the fuel pump, all the fuel lines. It still leaks air. They have ordered a new fuel pump housing that is supposed to come in Monday, weather permitting. Right now we are expecting up to a foot of snow and winds to 75mph for Sat nite and Sunday. I would like to have it but it is not in the cards. I guess the Ford will have to do. |

Take it to another shop! They have no idea what they are doing. If they told that they have replaced the "fuel pump" it is an outright lie because there is no such thing as a fuel pump housing or fuel solenoids or fuel pump on the CRD. The injection pump sucks fuel all the way from the tank which is why so many CRD's get air in the fuel filter. They are just doing shotgun repair and hopeing to fix the problem by accident. |

It is at the local Jeep Dealer and still under warranty. They may be blowing smoke but at least it is free. |

If the big three wonder why they having sale problems this is the prime reason. First they build an poor quality vehicle, then you will go through hell and high water and still not right, I would yank it out of there and put a lift pump on it and possible the fuel head. |

Air in the fuel will keep any Diesel from Starting the way it should |

I don't have a choice about waiting for them to figure it out. This is only the 4th CRD they sold so they do not have an 'expert' with experience on staff. They have sold a lot of Dodge Diesels though and you would think they would know something about them. |

Second that. Also, this is one of the reasons OEM's don't like diesels. Sounds like the dealership has blown through a lot of warranty cost without fixing the vehicle. Dealerships don't care, it's on Chrysler's dime. But there isn't much incentive to Chrysler to make another diesel vehicle if the warranty is through the roof... |

That's the fuse box by the battery. And that maybe they should put in the missing pump |

Gator, Do you have an '05 or and '06? I believe there was a TSB on the fuel lines of the early '05's. They leaked air. Have they replaced the fuel filter head, the fuel filter? I would be doing that befor I replaced a very expensive injector pump. |

Until you replace the fuel filter head and/or install a lift pump, carry a 11mm wrench in the glove box. With the engine off, prime the fuel system with the hand pump on the top of the filter till you feel resistance, and then bleed the air out by opening the nipple with the wrench. Repeat till you get fuel out of the nipple and not air. I had to do this before adding a new lift pump, and so have many here. Dealer never fixed this problem for anyone on this site. People from this site had to fix the problems themselves. Dealer's are worthless, they don't understand customer service, and as long as I can get parts from independent channels-- I will not miss them when they go bankrupt. |
