The turbo blew on my beast in October (100,000kms), also bent a valve, split the intercooler and a ton of other stuff all at the same time. Jeep replaced:
- top and bottom end of the engine
- the turbo
- the intercooler
- the all injectors
.... basically a new engine. I got it back and it was running great.... a little too great. I have had a bit of a grind in the gearbox for a while, it happens when starting off on a hill or taking off with the wheel turned hard and it's only in 1st and 2nd gear. Once it starts if I back off and get back on the pedal it goeas away.
and had it into Jeep but "they couldn't hear the noise". It went away for a while until the new engine.. I told my dealer about it again, drop it off and get the car back with the noise gone and a significant drop in power but I get the car back and they say "can't hear the noise, can't find a problem".
At the same time I asked if they could clean the boost pressure sensor.

I'm wondering if they have:
a) Cleaned the boost pressure sensor and have some how damaged it or it has caused the loss in power?
b) "Fixed" the problem in the gear box with a band aid solution and detuned the engine?

They have denied any involvement with detuning but the car is a slug compared to before. Not happy.....
Do the KJ CRDs usually run at 15 or 16psi?
I am planning on taking it to a different dealer to get their thoughts, would love to hear some of yours as well.
Thanks.

15-16psi and slug performance normally means blown turbo hoses.
atm pressue is 14.7 so you're only getting ~1 psi boost
mine did that when it blew a hose
normal running 23-25psi ~9 psi boost.

If hoses are good - I'm sure there are other things that could limit the turbo, sensor, vac actuator ect - but I haven't dealt with them.

X2. You didn't mention above that jeep replaced the hoses (and they're not cheap) so the mechanic may not have noticed or might have not tightened things up right when putting things back together. Have someone else rev the engine a little with the hood (is that what you call it in oz?) open and look/listen for noises and flexing from the charge hoses. I'll bet there's a split and they were never replaced.

It's actually 23-25psi boost.

I've done 3 or 4 boost hoses, definately not that. It really feels like they have dropped boost pressure. If so can a dealer adjust that by plugging in?
I've heard both 25ish psi and 16 psi..... anyone have a definate?

Correct. PSIG is boost over atmospheric. A boost gauge will not usually be PSIA, but the MAP sensor the ECM uses is for sure. But still 15-16 psi sounds low. It's possible you have a bad MAP sensor. How do you know what boost pressure the turbo is making? Does the vehicle whistle or hiss?

Just remembered I've had one of the Jeep Techs plug in before and show me the boost reading was at 15psi however at the moment the turbo doesn't sound like it's working anywhere near as hard as what it was before.
