I'm somewhat suspicious of the ad but I'm going to check out an '05 Limited with 59k for $5900. Kinda looks like a shady place lol. Anyway, are there some common issues I should look for? I've heard there are some problems with CRD's in general like bad torque converters? Am I asking for trouble getting one of these?

Yeah, but I'll be in the area so why not? :D I have been looking for a CRD, though, so I'm still curious about potential problems. Is there a statute of limitations on recalls? ie., do I have to be within my warranty to get stuff like the TC replaced?

pull the heater plug on the fuel head - if it's leaking odds are they have problems the dealer couldn't fix.

but you can fix

Action items:

1) Read lift pump threads and do it.
2) SEGR or ORM, do it.
3) Provent or home made version, do it.
4) Look at signatures showing mods, read plan, do :!: :!:
5) Buy Bean Counter targets, chose your weapon and put a lot of holes in them.
6) Don't let the Stealer Rape your ECM (They call it flash)

You will then be happy :D :D :D :D

If there is any evidence of vegetable oil used as fuel, RUN AWAY. Signs of that are spills inside the vehicle, holes in the firewall or in the fuel filler, and /or odd looking parts, wires and lines under the hood.

Also sticky deposits in the fuel filler door area...If you are worried about that kind of thing. 8)

Yes...I am anti-veggie oil, as it will absolutely destroy your pump and fuel injectors.

However, I am PRO biodiesel made from veggie oil. It's the nectar of the gods as far as your engine is concerned.

I guess I am just lucky,36,000 miles on KJ WVO kit with no issues, house runs on it as well as 40,000 greasy miles on my Excursion, guess I should go to the casino, and refresh my black magic spell,or something. On a serious note not all WVO is bad it's all in the filtration and heating.I use a centrifuge that cleans to 1/4 micron for filtering, after its settled for 2 months.I also have lots of R&D in my kits, not any hack work on my rigs.Like anything if you take pride in it,and do it correctly it will give years of French fry smelling service. Before we stereotype WVO rigs, lets remember it wasn't too long ago that Bio-d manufacturing resembled a meth lab,and people were running un-washed fuel.............the times are a changing,on both sides of this here fence.........H

Over 60000 miles on Veg oil blends, Biodiesel, HHO, Waste motor oil, and Homemade diesel all without heat. No injector problems, no IP problems, no melted engine, no loss of compression, no spills on the carpet. The key to running alternative fuels in the CRD is FILTRATION, FILTRATION, FILTRATION. It is more finicky about viscosity than Positive Displacement IP engines (I can run 100% WMO in my Dodge with the P-pump but only 25% in the CRD) but once you figure out what it likes and dislikes there is no problem with diesel substitutes. It is amazing to me how many people will tell you that your engine will explode within the next 10 miles when they find out that you are running Veg oil or WMO. Most of these armchair experts have never even used one drop of an alternative fuel let alone put any research into any of them but sure do have a lot of opinions about it.

You're correct that I've never run WVO, but I have run biodiesel.

I just know what I've read in my research regarding veggie, and the need for separate tanks, heaters, and a switch built in to change from wvo to diesel at shutdown so you don't end up sending thick oil through your injectors.

All of this info may be complete bunk, but it's scared me enough to keep me from running straight WVO.

There is indeed a lot of bunk out there but the proof is in the pudding (60k and still clacking like new) If you are interested in further research here is a good place to start with a lot of good stuff all in one place.
http://www.frybrid.com/forum/forumdispl ... f51719&f=4

Alternatively try here but there is a lot of trolling.
http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/eve/forums/ ... 9751014871

I do not necessarily advocate the use of VO as a fuel for everyone because of it's complexity of use, but simply make the point that it can be done safely.
If i had my druthers I would be running Biodiesel as my fuel of choice but the winter weather up here in the great white north does not allow for either one to be used without modification to the vehicle. Besides as fuel returns to ~2 bucks a gallon alternative fuels are loosing their appeal to a cheap and lazy person like myself.

I have an engine for it, so if you don't buy it, let me know and I would consider buying it. Heck for that price, why not?

Fuel companies wanted in,so after his most unforunate death, designed a petro fuel to run in a compression injection motor IE diesel Engine.I keep to myself on my discoveries and tribulations,as not to end up playing Rudolph games...pun intended. My theory is you cannot trust not a man who you can't see eye to eye with. This slows industrail evolution, but is self-preservation.If you want the real deal go to these sights....DFA(Vegistroke) my workhorse to tow around all my WVO is a 2000 Ford Excursion with a 7.3 that has the V3 vegistroke......................AG Solutions...............my house boiler is the B-150 running only WVO  .My centrifuge is a Dieselcraft OC-50 F2F set-up.I also have a Vw WVO project rig,and a Porsche 924 waiting for a kubota 3 cyl.All in all I have ALOT of money into this, and 4-5 years of WVO lifestyle under my belt.......If you have Q's PM me,as knowledge is strength and you never know WHO is lurking....................H

The owner of Golden Fuel Systems destroyed his CRD with veggie oil. I don't know if he learned anything from his experience, but I sure did. Veggie oil may be ok if done right, but there is far more that can go wrong with it. Such as water in the oil, very difficult to remove. And inadequate heat in the heat exchangers, premature switchover, and purges returning vegetable oil into the diesel for starting cold later. Vegetable oil will get into the lube oil and polymerize, that's what happened with the GFS CRD. I think there is less margin for error in the CRD than other vehicles, especially if you have not disabled the EGR and shortened the oil change interval.

Indeed. It can be very picky.

I may not be so bad off then with the LSD 50ppm that i use after all.

Some research revealed that the lubricity of the ULSD 15 ppm might be a bit low and suggested a bio mix of 5% just to add some lube.

GFS AKA FRybrid has some great products, but his filtration system is sub-par in my opinion. It was great for his white 2000 ford excursion, which doesn't mind a little water in the fuel.I know that nothing that can fit in a suitcase can filter oil clean enuff for a CRD.I do remember that CRD,and the man that sold it after chris got rid of it.I believe it was an inferno red 2005,anywho it can be done with patience and a good filteration system.I just shipped out a disk to Mr.kake on the install,if anyone else needs a copy let me know.Back to subject, ditch the fuel head, put a Racor on it.Install lift pump, free flowing exhaust,SEGR,add a Edge tuner and a suncoast TC,And it is the best diesel SUV ever(this is coming from a excursion owner)........................H
