Okay dumb question of the day: I finally got around to checking my oil level after a couple months and it was about 1/4" below the low mark on the dipstick after several checks. I added about 1/2 qt. waited a few minutes and that brought it up to about halfway between low and full. So just how low does the oil have to be in the pan to throw a CEL or the oil pressure light? |

Blake, This should probably be on the CRD thread. With a normal car the oil pressure light may not come on until only 1-2 quarts are left, oil pressure can be mantained until the oil level is very low. With my CRD oil usage is increased if the level is above the halfway mark. |

On the oil dip stick: High mark = top of the hash's Low mark = bottom of the hash's safe zone = in the middle of the hash area Below the hash marks and your engine doesn't have enough oil. Above the hash marks and your engine is over filled. |

Didn't somebody say that if the oil level is too high, more oil will be passed through the CCV. |

gonna check it again after driving home, when I checked it at lunch today it looked high/overfilled but had been idle 5 hrs, engine cold... if anything I'll check and see if my provent is swimming in oil after 5K... if it's too high I'll just drain a bit since I have a fumoto |
