Exhaust restriction

Post subject:  Exhaust restriction
Is the section of exhaust from the turbo to the cat 2 inch or 50 mm in metric, i know the rear section is 2.5 inch or 57 mm. If it is 2 inch, is it recommended to change this section to 2.5 inch diameter to improve the flow and EGT's without effecting back pressure ( if there is any ) on the CRD.

about 2" - however most of the stock exhaust is 2 1/2" except the muffler which drops to 2"
so get a good flowing muffler (some folks have done straight pipe - the turbo muffles)
and it'll improve performance a bit.

I sliced mine just forward of the cat, leaving the mesh flex section intact. Straight pipe to a Flowmaster all-metal noise canceling muffler and stock tail from there.

Engine is a bit more throaty, but the difference on coasting is <Lord_Vader> MOST IMPRESSIVE. </Vader> It used to drag down in speed quite rapidly, now it seems like it will coast for days. Much better for hypermiling.

Just put a hollowed out one in front of the muffler. Can't tell if is working. Visually it is there.

Emission tests? Had those in Fl during the 90s, biggest moneymaker for the testing company EVER. 99.999999% profits. I'll figure out a way to live in two places at once before I'll ever register a car in a testing state again.

Heck, I'd like to figure out a way to "live" in Canada too, so I could buy and drive a Smart or Mini diesel. There has to be a way to work this.

I went through the Federal emission test with flying colors with a gutted cat and BD when I lived in Tennessee.

A gutted cat would work fine in Colorado. If it's missing, the FAIL is visual. The emissions test is easy, it's just an opacity test, but I have only had to do it once as the roadside screening we have passes even dirty diesels. It's totally geared towards detecting carbon monoxide that diesels don't emit.

They would pass with flying colors because your running B100 Bio... I know a guy who passed with such low numbers, they had him com back another day for a retest so they could calibrate their equipment! The second time the numbers were within 1% of the first run... :lol:

What's nice about Colorado is the roadside testing in the Denver metro area. Just drive through and get your emissions sampled automatically, a picture is taken of your license plate and your vehicle is waived from an emissions test, provided it passes. And diesels always pass gasser testing. My Mercedes cost $60 for a diesel emissions test when I first registered, but I haven't had to test it in 5 years just by driving through these things.

Just run B100 before take your test. I have two trucks without cats. I fill up with B100 drive around for a while then take the test. Pass every time!

That's not the issue. We have to have the cat installed. The emissions is cake, but there is a visual inspection for an existing cat as well. Anyway there is no reason for me to remove the cat, it improves the exhaust smell and reduces pollution. And if you notice my signature, I already run B100. :D
