I had been noticing an occasional drop of oil on the driveway where I park. It began as the temps got down into the +teens. After starting at this outrageous temp, there was a large spot, 8" in diameter, under the Jeep. I got it to the dealer and they said it is the tube from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve. It was wet on the drivers side of the engine along what looked like a convoluted tube. Last I heard the exhaust manifold shouldn't have oil in it. Anyway they said (you guessed it) it wasn't covered by the extended powertrain warranty and would cost $280 to replace. I'm running SEGR and could not care less about the integrity of the EGR system but I am concerned about oil in the exhaust manifold. Intake side of turbo has only a slight oil mist so the turbo is OK I think. Should I bite the bullet and have this fixed or can the tube be plugged? Should I worry about the oil in the exhaust? I need to do something as the concrete driveway is beginning to look like crap.

P.S. It seems to not be leaking once warmed up or at least slows down a lot, I have 57,000 miles on the Jeep.

Thanks in advance for your opinions/advise.

If it's leaking from the convoluted tube, that's on the outlet of the EGR valve/cooler to the intake manifold. If you're running the SEGR, that's the only place it's leaking oil, and you don't have a Provent/EHM installed, I think I have a simple explanation -

The oil mist from the turbo/CCV that's getting sucked thru the intake system is simply coating the intake manifold, then running down and collecting inside the outlet tube for the EGR.

I fully agree with you - I see no way to be getting liquid oil in that amount from the exhaust manifold, especially with the SEGR and the EGR fully shut off - otherwise your vehicle would be smoking like a coal-fired locomotive.

My read would be to just pull off the convoluted tube, clean out the oil, and blank the bloody thing off if you so choose.

OK. You're saying that if I had an EHM I would be seeing the same thing from it, correct? I have the components to fabricate a homebrew provent and as soon as we get a break in the weather I'll put that together. I think I will cap off that tube. I assume at the intake manifold end. Do I have a slight boost leak? If this is coming from the intake side I guess I do.

Thanks.
