Ok so i had the fuel heater element replaced a couple of months ago and now I've developed a strong smell of fuel in and outside of the libby. I've rechecked the fuel heater and its dry but there is a cloth sheathed return line(i think) that snakes under the wire harness and fuel rail that is saturated in fuel...but where is it coming from? love this truck but the ticky-tac stuff is starting to wear me oot!
thx
Mike :?

Those little returns lines can become brittle and are not that hard to snap. Thankfully, they're low pressure, so they can be patched/replaced with diesel-resistant materials. I think a full assembly (return tubes for all 4 injectors) runs between 100 and 200 bucks. Had a buddy crack one when moving it out of the way for a MAP cleaning...

So are you saying some form of diesel resistant materal will seal that back up? Do you know of anything? There is a little hump in that line by that lil thingy, (tech term, let me know if I'm talkin over your head) that needed cleaning up by the fire wall and thats where the juiciest part is.... I'll bet I cracked my line accessing the MAP sensor to clean it. Is that the map sensor? I'm so lost on the anatomy of diesels
thx
Mike

Well, what I'm saying is that IF it's one the those little injector return lines that is leaking, you can get by with any product that's used for fuel (small diameter fuel line, etc) as a patch to at least reduce the leakage. Unless you're pretty familiar with Diesel injection systems (which I am not), in the longer term you'll probably want to invest in replacing the part that is broken instead of fabricating something. I'll do a fuel pump, but messing with high-pressure injectors could make a big dangerous mess if you do it wrong.

Have a picture of the "thingy" that you're talking about. It would say 1000 words.

Dan
