Post subject:  WTF - Won't go into reverse after fluid change

So, the last two days I've been working on changing my fluids in the CRD. I also put in the TransGo shift kit. Once the transmission pan cooperated, everything went smoothly....so I thought. I put everything back together and am excited to take her out for her first drive. Put it in drive in the driveway and feel it engage and go forward, put it in reverse and........nothing. I'm not sure where to start looking first I thought maybe I didn't get the transmission connector all the way back on. Took it back off and reseated it. Nada. Pulled the codes, nada. Checked the fluid. Its fine.

The only thing I can think of is putting the valve body back together is that one set of the springs where you replace both of them, is that the inside one wasn't 'tight' like the other one. Does that matter? Can anyone help me out. I'm going through the service manual to see if its got anything....

Looks like I might have 'assumed' the LOW/REVERSE SWITCH VALVE fell out when I shook it out and put the new ones on top of it not allowing the things to switch between 1st and R. Doe this sound logical? Read on a dodge board, they said the original one usually doesn't fall out and it gets 'stuck' in there....

Are you talking about the small puck to the front of the valve body? That is supposed to be low and reverse switch valve.

Yup, so it sounds like that is my issue. Ya for me...now I get to take it all back apart again...

Kudos on not posting this with a thread topic subject as Transgo failure........................

Now why would I do that? The instructions could have been a bit better, but it works like a charm now! As stated earlier, I installed on of those valves on top of one another. After removal of the TransGo provided one and leaving the stock on it it now works!

Took it out for a spin, and its great. Only reason I noticed it because I drive the damned thing every day. The other half won't know any difference! Except I had teh VB in the kitchen for assembly.

However, I wonder what the non-HD kit that is out there feels like. This one is so subtle.

Did you take any photos and would you care to make better instructions  I'm thinking about putting in a transgo at my next fluid change and would love some instructions that aren't aimed at a tranny tech.

I didn't, I was too busy cussing at the transmission pan and myself.

My .02 for clarification purpose (actual transgo instructions can be found on Eurekaboy's page)

1 - yes the wire rings go inside the 'fiber' rings on the bottom of the VB pistons
2 - make sure you either get the L/R switch thingy out or don't install the TransGo provided one
3 - Look at Eurekaboy's page. I would have never found the main wiring harness were it not for his better tips on where to find it.
4 - Its really not as hard as you think. I've always been afraid to do this. had I not installed the TransGo L/R switch on top of the stock one everything would have been fine.
5 - Although a noticeable improvement if you pay attention, no one else will know its installed by driving it. however, if a dealer were to service the trans mission and need to remove the VB they would see the stamped thicker plate on the VB pistons that has TransGo on it.

I think that's really it.

It is easy to do, the valve body where the reverse goes is very small and it looks like there is nothing
in there, so you just slide in the new very small piston like unit and if you don't get the other one
out, guess what no reverse, don't ask how I know either. And another 8 quarts or so later,
it is pretty well flushed clean after that manuver.

It sure would be nice to get these red x lifetime member items fixed or removed. Sorry I'm off topic.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. That makes me feel better!
