| Post subject: | Torque converter recall/PCM re-program |
My CRD had the torque converter recall done before I bought it. I know that they re programmed the PCM for less power so the new, but same, torque converter wouldn't fail. My question is how can I get the factory power settings back. Everyone I spoke to that had this recall done said they got better MPG before the recall. I want to reverse the nueter that my jeep got from the dealer to get its factory power and mileage back. |

is the B&G pcm flash available for the CRD's? if so the link would be http://bgspecialists.com/ i don't see it specifically listed but that doesn't mean they don't offer it, i'm sure one of the crd fellas knows, i hope you get the answers you want |

Right - Mr MoService cannot turn back the clock or restore the tune - EDGE Trail\similar for the KJ CRD will do so, as will INMOTION ECM reflash - the black boxes are simple easy-on\easy-off installation - the reflash is permanent but offers better control - main consideration is the boxes can be switched off, restoring oem operation similar to a valet switch |

I will be purchasing the Edge Trailjammer in the near future. |

the edge trailjammer works well, but in the #3 or high torque position, the stock converter will slip in lockup and under a hard pedal |

if you leave it in #3 the engine will stall and throw a CEL. It just happened to me Sunday crossing over Vail Pass on my way back from MOAB. I usually never use #3 except to pass but somehow the switch fliped dropping off the ledges out there. |

Tunning chips and computer reprogramming are good, but won't restore the pre f-37 shift points, which are probably what the pre-neuter fuel economy was due to. |

Correct, but the boxes can restore (and more) the power lost to F37 - also, fairly certain TCM was not altered as part of F37 - TCM responds to F37 by altering the shift points to compensate for reduced power due to F37's increased detune at each sensed Torque Management Request event - the less the power, the later the shifts - restore the power, TCM responds as B4 - btw, the TMR sense line in my KJ has been, shall we say, interrupted since ~NOV07 with no adverse effect(s) - not even a random CEL or DTC |

The Torque Management Request may be part of it - but it's not all. one of the AZ folks (AZScout??) managed to fix his by getting a pre F37 TCM from an automotive recycling center (junkyard) so Engine control is post F37, TMR sensor is unmodified - but replacement TCM - and it's back to original. of course he also has a power module - so the best of both. |

It is well documented that the fourth and fifth shift points were raised by the F37 (at least the lockup points were). The TC lockup cannot occur at less than 50mph for 4th and 60mph for 5th, whereas the pre F37 shift/lockup points were 45ish and 55ish. It is hard to say definitely whether or not the lower shift points were changed because of their engine power/load dependent nature. This increase in shift points definitely hurts the MPG seeing as how most of this engines torque is unavailable without the TC engaged. A lower stall speed TC like the Suncoast can probably undo most of the loss of the useful power band, but if it were combined with a TCM reprogram it would be awesome. |

ATXKJ, LocoCRD and I both have a pre-F37 TCM. It does restore the old lock-up points. It kicks down a lot less on the hills, so it definitely lugs more. |

I remembered reading that someone had done it - (wrong state on both counts) That's what I want - I do remember how mine drove when it was new - and I want that back - The power modules will add to the horsepower - but they don't change the lockup - and it feels different. but there's aren't many wrecked CRD's around here, so the TCM's are pretty scarce. |

an old thread related to this topic... http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=19169 On page 2, MrMopar indicates that the TMR wire is related to traction control. That doesn't explain why the 05 models have the wire, since they didn't have traction control. Maybe export models. Dunno... |
