How in the world did you strip the pan with the Fumoto? |

same way as with any pan plug. He was installing it, not using it. It is very possible the pan was already 3/4 of the way to stripped from previous use. |

That,s a lot of bolts to R&R. I have used pipe reducing bushings that I drill and tap to the desired plug size on the inside first. Then I drill and tap the pan with the right size pipe tap, put Loctite 290 on it, screw it in, tighten it up, screw in the plug or in your case your valve and get on with life. |

Sorry to hear about your situation,I just went through the same thing a few weeks back, but got lucky. Finding the correct tap may be tough. Some have used a different Fumoto tapping to a different size. Best bet mabe is to find out the tap size on the other Fumoto.Tap it,go get a plug that size, and order the new Fumoto. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=40736 |

not near my jeep at the moment but to remove the oilpan lifting the engine a little is not required correct? I know some are. I was looking around for pics and couldn't find one. Id rather not have shavings in the pan and if it is required id just rather take it to the dealer. Also does anyone have the torque #'s for the pan? Any recommendations for the gasket? |

There is no reason to drop the pan.If you have to tap, then use old oil to flush out debris, and if allready discarded, then use some cheap oil.Dropping the pan will make this molehill a mountain. |

darn Ribbon I just did the saem thing, but I got tension on th eplug. I have to go to Florida tomorrow and I am PRAYING it stays put. I was thinking of putting some RTV on it to hold till I get back. I think I am just going to replace the pan and install the FOMOTO on the new pan. I need to service the tranny filter and probably the TC but I will wait on this until after June. So is the pan REALTIVELY easy to drop and replace? I have no issues buying a new pan when I get back and can use the Auto Hobby Shop at Quantico to do this at. Oh yeah where do you get the Fumoto plug at? Local Dealer wants $417 for the pan and $29 for the gasket and will have it Tuesday. Grrrr. I will wait till JustFor Jeeps calls me back. |

You can for sure get the pan loosened in the vehicle with no issues. However, I don't think that you can clear the balance shafts in the sump and the pick-up tube without having the engine jacked up a few inches off the mounts. |

jinstall, i just ordered the tap and drillbit for the F104. They should be here tuesday. I still have the F102. Since my pan is stripped i wont be needing the F102 anymore and if you want it let me know. Otherwise you can use the bit and tap i just got to tap your pan so you dont have to spend all that money. then just get the F104. Quantico is close to me. Im down that way alot. |

Cool. I am looking at ordering a new oil pan for $375 shipped. I finally found oil from 2 places. I got 2 cases today from the MB Dealer in Alexandria. I might try and see if the pan will accept the 102 without any issues. |

Noticed in this thread and others that some have stripped the threads on the drain plug/pan. Was it from overtightening or do you think you crossthreaded it when installing? The reason I ask is that I changed my oil last night and now the drain plug has a slight leak. I'm pretty sure I snugged it down good and I know it threaded in easy. Should I be wary of overtightening or could it just be the plug gasket? |

Is it possible that the plug gasket fell off before reinstalling it? That seems to be the case with most stripped pans. |

That seems to be the case with most stripped pans. Nope, after all the talk of stripped pans or plugs, I am overly cautious when installing. I did go and put another tug on plug and got a little movement. We'll see what happens...just didn't want to screw it up. |

Ribbon, my oil pan got stripped recently by Jiffy Lube. Did you use a 41/64 bit before tapping with a 18 X 1.5? I plan to fix mine this weekend... |
