Post subject:  Looking for a CRD to buy nation wide. General question.

At the moment there are 196 CRD Liberty's on Autotrader. 50+ limiteds. The prices are good too. Hell, there are some 25+ trucks with less than 35,000 miles. So Im leaning towards a Limited CRD with 20,000+ mile range. Can you guys tell me whether the Limteds came with factory skid plates, or whether the skid plates were a special order item based on the purchaser? When Im done with my current (Im working 12 hours a day 7 days a week) project is done Ill be flying somewhere nation wide to buy a used CRD.

Is there a reason to chose, or not chose a Limited model?

Thanks.

Tom

limiteds may or may not have had skids. I think they could be an option on the sports too.

IMO the only real thing to look at is getting an 05, they don't have ESP, but instead have a LSD rear, and you might get lucky and find one that has not been f37ed.

Limited is just the fancy trim option to the sport. The Limited is more likely to come "loaded" with fancy stuff like sun roofs, heated seats or sat nav-- but that is not a guarantee. You don't want the Mopar skids for the most part. They are pretty flimsy.

My 06 Limited with 24k miles is pretty basic.
The only options are a Sirus radio and a folding package shelf in the rear.

The chrome grill and body side moldings look nice on the Atlantic Blue color. The seat material is supposed to be different but it still stains with clear water. But the power seat makes it easier to find a comfortable setting :D

My Sport has full Mopar skids, including the gas tank. Must have come that way since I KNOW the previous owner did not have them installed. Gotta be either a factory option or dealer-installed option.

I got my Sport with 25K miles for $12K back in September here in Louisiana. Keep an eye peeled, the deals are out there.

Tom,

The skid plates were an option. You can buy them and they are easy to install except for the fuel tank.

The F37 was a flash to the programming that was a TSB in about February '06 for all pretty much all '06 pre 2/06 and it was just the standard programing for all the post 2/06 models. It detuned the engine some to address the TC problems.

If you want an ORM kit I have one of those I will part with too. I should have thought about that Friday but I was too focussed on getting to Tacoma. I beoieve it is the second build of the kit. I am pretty certain I will not assemble or install it and I don't mind seeiing the CEL on and clearing it now and then.

In 05, both the Sport CRD and Limited CRD came with a thin engine skid. All other skids were an off road package option. The Mopar skids are just fine if you're not spending a lot of time setting the weight of the truck on them. There are better (and much more expensive) options, but if you're looking for something to keep the occasional road debris from flipping up and hitting your oil filter, the Mopar skids do quite well.

The Limiteds came with a slightly different interior trip package than the Sport. The Sport was all interior-color plastic and the Limited had "brushed aluminum" plastic. However, you could upgrade a Sport to have this interior trim pkg too.

There are no real huge differences that couldn't be overcome with an upgrade package or two or three, other than the fender flares. I don't believe it was possible to change a Sport from the "black" fender flares to the body-colored flares of the Limited.

The Trac-Lok LSD rear was an available option in both the Sport and Limited. Neither automatically with it.

I'll see if I can dig up my shopping lists that I made back when I bought my truck. It listed all the standards and options.

All CRDs came in 4WD, with the NP242 transfer case, and all 05's came with the LSD rear.

My '05 does NOT have LSD according to the build sheet and my ability to spin the right rear tire every time I make a right turn with too much pedal!

That's interesting, previously we had looked at it and we came to the conclusion that the 05s all had LSD and the 06 had the ESP instead.

That's too bad Gary.

After a couple years of service, my tranny skid folded like tissue paper during EJS in MOAB causing my tranny pan to be crushed as well as the oil filter. It was a big mess...... literally.

My sport did not have skids, I added the MOPAR ones myself. I plan to replace the skid with one from skid row.

Dave, what's the ORM kit? I thought that was an elephant hose? Are you talking about the SEGR? Is it assembled or not.

My 05 doesn't have a LSD. I suspected that it didn't have one when observing my burnouts, and verified it with the dealer when I had a leaky axle seal fixed. They told me it was an available option which the dealers could order.

ORM is Off Road Mod, simply put when you unplug the MAF you disable the EGR.

the SEGR(synthetic EGR) does the same thing, but without the check engine light coming on.

Oh man this almost pushes me over the edge on selling the KJ. I just need more room and the prices of the ML320CDI's are right where I want them to be. AUGH but I love my KJ.

my Sport came with a front skid and no LSD
it's been updated - but the Mopar tranny skid bends really easily,
and the replacement Mopar engine skid was thicker than the original.

the EHM and Provent are both fixes for the CCV valve that dumps oil into the intake
the ORM and SEGR are fixes for the EGR that dumps burnt carbon into the intake.

neither oil nor carbon need to be in the intake - but they're part of Federal emission controls so the fixes tend to be for off-road.

Limiteds tend to have EVIC's, sunroof's and leather seat- all are nice to have
