so just today it has happend going straight.... but it has happened before on long right hand turns (i.e. on ramps to highways)

tranny slips then slams into gear....

fluid level in park and running is at the top of the hot mark of the dipstick after being warmed up... am i checking this correctly?

i am guessing fluid starvation but i don't know cause the level seems fine to me...

any help here?

thanks in advance

Are you positive it's the tranny and not the driveshaft thunk caused from the input shaft binding in the seal? Not doubting you, just covering all bases.

good thought but that wouldn't cause the slip

No, it wouldn't. Was the turn sloped like an on ramp? Clover leaf?

it finally threw codes... P0700 and P0734..... one of which is 4th gear incorrect ratio... looks like i am in for a tranny

I see you did the Suncoast. Please post with the diagnosis. Anything with mods or driving (like heavy trailers) that may have contributed to the problem? I am holding off on replacing my TC as the CRD pulls well so far and I am hoping that if I have a problem I will not be stranded and can put off transmission work for a while.

Main filter o-ring seal leaking - possible damage or defective installation - or, plugged\defective cooler-return filter

Has the dealer inspected the trans to see if it's included in TSB 21-007-06?

Quote:
SUBJECT:
RFE Transmission Filters - Delayed Engagement And Related Transmission DTC'S
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves verifying the build date of the transmission, and if necessary, the
replacement of both the cooler return and sump filters in the transmission.

Also they need to check the TCM to see if it's included in TSB 08-016-05

Quote:
SUBJECT:
TCM Internal Fault May Cause A Low Line Pressure or Gear Ratio Error DTC
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves: verifying if a low transmission line pressure condition is/was present,
replacing the Transmission Control Module (TCM) if necessary, and inspecting for possible
transmission clutch disc wear.

If you would rather do it yourself PM me and I'll get you the info you need.

Gmctd,

Would those cause the trans to slip?

yes, low line pressure would cause the trans to slip

Guess I should add that it only happens if O/D is on... I don't think it will shift into 4th.

Could I flip my resistor switch and see if that helps the situation?

It was suggested to check the output shaft sensor too. Would that be a viable option?

You indicated that it slipped only under incident of increased radial inertia (around cloverleaf), where atf would be sloshed to one side - if sump filter seal is functional, normal fluid level variance due to vehicle motion is not detrimental - got a leaker, however, and any severe shift in level can uncover the sump pickup filter inlet neck, allowing the pump to suck air, causing slippage - would be my guess...............................

Check to see if your in the 'identified problems' category before anything else. God knows there's enough of them...

now that i have had some time to think and am at a full keyboard instead of my phone...

i did indicate that it happened in the increased radial inertia initally... but it is now happening consistently (every 3-4 shift) on flat level ground acceleration or not... that is why i have kinda ruled out the sloshing... but if the filter seal leak is bad enough (or has worsened) then it might be a viable option..

also in my normal driving i tried using the resistor to up the line pressure... no luck with that...

and the more i think about the output shaft shensor... that seems it would be an all the time thing not just a 3-4 shift..

so i think my two routes now are 1. draining the pan and looking for metal shavings (excess) if they are there... rebuild better and stronger... and 2. drain the pan, no excess of metal shavings, replace both filters and all seals..

does that sum it up good enough?

How does this variable line pressure resistor work? Where is it connected?

FWIW-- had the same right turn problem throwing those P07xx codes and it was right after I replaced the two filters in the 545RFE-- took it to Moservice guys and they told me the the NAPA set of filters I bought lacked a check valve and they fixed it and runs fine now-
Did you just replace filters? that could be it.

that is a good observation.... i replaced with the same filters i believe.... maybe i am going to have to get mopar filters and swap them out.... but this is happening 11K miles after my service

and today it was rescanned and is now throwing a code for 3rd gear too (p0733)

the resistor is tied in inbetween two wires on the back side of the transmission on the passenger side... mine is linked to a switch so i can decide if i want it on or not....i believe it lets a bit of current around the transmission so the trans thinks the line pressure is low...
