Biodiesel is a great lubricant if that's what you're looking for. Just watch out for the homebrewers. Some of them are great, but a lot of them are nuts. If you don't know a good deal about it and are certain they know what they are doing...and are doing it correctly, I recommend commercial suppliers (I still test what I buy every once in a while). I've talked to some that make some crazy concoctions that isn't biodiesel.

I use 4oz with #2, 8oz with #1 no problem.

Don't recommend it, appears that marine 2 strokes have the opposite effect on the diesel fuel and rather than provide lubricity, they do the opposite.

Research the topic and you'll find some interesting test results.

Can't seem to find it, Do you have a link to this research, I would be interested in reading it.

An interesting read, for those who are interested.

In a similar but unrelated note. I have a friend who owns a Transmission shop in Ft lauderdale. He has a YJ that he dropped a Cummins into which makes for an interesting rig. At the height of diesel prices last year, he started running his Jeep on a 50/50 mixture of used tranny fluid and new tranny fluid. He figured that the used stuff only had to be disposed of anyway and the increase in bulk purchases in the new stuff would drop his op costs while saving him from $4.98/gal diesel.

Did I read that correctly? He used transmission fluid as fuel?

Can't seem to find it, Do you have a link to this research, I would be interested in reading it.

No i don't have the link however it was a test done with various popular brand additives and the TCW marine oil was not recommended for the CRD pump.

IMO using tranny fluid in a high pressure common rail system is suicidal for your engine.

Post subject:

Well there were plenty of Dodge Cummins built before '03 so it's not necessarily common rail. But still, tranny fluid from failed transmissions could have anything in it.

It wasn't common rail, he got the engine out of an old bread truck.

Please see if you can find it. I've been running walmart 2 stroke oil in my dodge for some time now with great results. Actually mopar1973man was the one who pointed it out to me. And VP44'ed cummins are far more temperamental about their fuel.

I have tried several searches and have come to the conclusion it's one of those "pretend studies"

Author:  ATXKJ [ Sun May 10, 2009 10:20 pm ]

The 'pretend' study was from The Diesel place

(the search key was lubricity)

Looks to me to be an improvement.

Baseline shows 636 with no additives. Fuel treated with 2 stroke oil shows 474. For an improvement of 162. Only costs me about $4 to dose a full tank in my truck. (32 gallons) I'll keep using it.

I dig this up real quickly, this is not the official pdf but a copy and paste w/o the graphics.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showth ... p?t=177728

Will hunt for pdf later. Failed to back up my bookmarks. I use tcw3 (usually)

At a ratio of 1 oz to one gallon. I usualy pre pour 20 oz of tcw3 and 6.3 oz of power service into a Rubbermaid reusable container that has a spout and a gasket on the screw on lid.

I usually only fill around 17-19 gals per stop but i've had the occasional 21.

Now, to be honest i've been saving dough in the last month by NOT buying tcw3 and PS but it's not significant. I'm eyeballing some rock rails pretty hard.

I "think" i get better mpg with he tcw3 and ps. I dont think it's more than 1-3 mpg

It's more btu/gal.

I dont use ps/tcw3 when on vacation and when on vacation i seem to return 2-4 mpg less than normal highway within range of my home.

For instance, i get consistently 26-28 mpg combined but while on vacation (6k miles 99% Highway) i averaged under 23 mpg yes it was cold out there, and yes it was on winter blend. So it had nothing going for it. I live in San Diego and around my home is usually ... perfect weather.

Anyway it's fun to pour crap into your fuel tank. It;'s even cooler when it does something for you. In another article i read i think think think think from Cummins (will look up) Had tcw3 as the #2 lube enhancer for common rail and ip's

EDIT this is what i get for not refreshing :P way to go ATX
