Ok Im getting ready to go pick up my new (to me) CRD KJ. I have a B100 pump (B50 in the winter) here in town. I was wondering how many of you have run bio and what your thoughts on it are? This truck has 43,000 miles and I dont think its had any bio. So, if I can run a few tanks through and clean everything out then change the fuel filter Id be pretty happy. Thanks. Tom |

I fill er up with bio whenever I am in Jackson Hole, WY. It only costs .01 more than the dino stuff there so I figure "what the heck"? I do not notice any difference in performance but many on here have said it's better for the engine. |

Go for it, the CRD loves bio during the summer months. |

Yup, my CRD has loved the taste of some bio when I can get it. |

I use it every once in awhile, but B20, engine seems to run a little bit quieter, smells as your deep frying and you help mother nature a bit. |

I run B100 from mid march till the end of October when they drop down to B20 for the winter here in Kansas. I notice it really gets quiet after about 30 miles but it does not seem to make as much power but it sure smells good. |

I've run B20 off and on for the past 2 years and a couple times blended B100 in the tank. Even though I did get a clogged up CAT fuel filter after >10K & 12 mo. no complaints. Just wish it wasn't so outta the way and always .10+ more a gal. |

Thanks guys. I run B100 in my TDI, Samurai and Land Cruiser. I just didnt know about the CRD. No bio doesnt have the power of normal diesel. Bio doesn't produce the same number of BTU's as normal diesel. But yes it is good for your engine. Hey, if you can run your engine on wesson oil why not right? |

First tank of b20 since 5 miles from the dealership and ever since, and in the summer we run b50. Hey JL, Now your back here, you can get B20 at Dal Sogilo in Midvale or Caldwell in Sandy. Both have b100 during the summer too. |

Been brewing my own for about a year now, running anywhere from B25 to B75. I think the engine seems smoother on Bio than petro. |

I use B20 in the summer and B5 in the winter and have had no fuel related problems. I wish we had higher Bio blends around here (at least in the summer). |

Only bio I ran is what it came with from the dealer. When you can find it it is the same price as regular diesel.(B5-B10) I refuse to pay the same price for less btu's. I won't run anything past B-10- personal preference. |

Got a B30 mix in there now- smells like Wesson Oil! Usually try to stay at B5 for lubrication factors on the CP3 and injectors due to the "hardness" of ULSD. (Use B5 on my wife's 06 VW TDI Jetta) Roland |

I run biodiesel almost all the time (see my sig). As long as it's warm enough, I've had no issues. I did manage it gel it up once and had the typical air in fuel type problems. I get slightly lower fuel mileage with it, but it's cheaper than diesel here and I like the added lubrication and the thought that I'm sending less money to the mid east. |

Thanks guys. Another question. The truck I'm buying has 43,000 miles on her. If when I get her home I run a couple tanks of B99 thru her will there be any CRUD issues to deal with? I've heard that bio is a solvent and that it CLEANS things out really well. So should I burn a couple tanks and then change out the fuel filter??? |

Probably not much crud, but the bio will clean out what's there, and then a filter change will get you back n schedule.

When you change the filter be careful about getting the biod on things in the engine compartment. The fuel lines should be fine with it, but plastic wiring connectors and insulation might not be. I wash the engine bay with soap and water after changing the filter, and I am careful where I get water when doing this. |
