I have not followed much in the past year or so as to what is good and bad with the CRD. Which year is the best to buy. Kind of in the market for one. Greg |

I just sold mine to a fellow LOST member. I loved my 2005. Now I'm a Grand Cherokee CRD owner. I need a Fumoto for it! |

2005 has a better warranty. 7/70 2006 has traction control standard. That's really the only difference. |

Post-11/05 build date 2006's have a different style torque converter, from what I understand. Not sure how accurate that is, I think gmctd and Cowpie know more about it. |

If the 05 had the F37 - then they're the same if you can find an 05 - without F37 - save that TCM. |

I bought/am buying Chads '05 CRD. I was able to find a LOST member who never installed his LS CAT 2 filter kit for the CRD. I was lucky. Can't wait to pick her up. I've already got a snorkle for her, V6 airbox mod, Amsoil bypass filter kit, HID kit, boost and pyro gauges. |

I guess we really didn't answer Greg-man's question. Whats bad? Arguably the torque converter, the first generation fuel filter head, and sometimes the window regulators. |

Whats bad? Arguably the torque converter, the first generation fuel filter head, and sometimes the window regulators. Yeah, but that could apply to both 05's and 06's. I'm not sure if there really is much of a difference, beyond the 05's warranty and the 06's standard ESP. I think build date is the more important thing to look at rather than model year. The later the build date, the more confidence you can have of DC having worked out more kinks. That, however, is offset by the possibility of finding a 2005 or early 2006 without the F37 reflash, giving more hp and torque - if you're willing to replace a torque converter. I like danoid's explanation of torque pulsations below, it opened up my understanding of why our little boat motor tears up a transmission designed for the mighty Hemi. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=42958 |

IMO, the 05 is better if you plan to wheel it: No ESP. ABS sensors only on front wheels, rear diff sensor in 05 If its going to be a DD or a tow rig, then ESP might come in handy. Fuel head can be replaced easily and probably for free from the dealer TC was changed under warranty. F37 - Never been an issue for me, I still don't know what all the fuss is about. My tractor has plenty of torque. |

IIRC the 05s for some reason was able to achieve better MPGs, arguably up to 30mpg vs. 24 or 26mpg for 06s. Possibly one of the best reasons to get an 05 me thinks. |

Possibly one of the best reasons to get an 05 me thinks. My 06 gets 30mpg+ on highway trips..... |

Pretty sure the gap was caused by the FAN clutch in the 05 vs 06, the only OTHER difference. Also the alts can be different. Buy an 06 unplug the esp, or add lockers (esp + lunchbox style lockers = goodness) And while your not overheating like an 05, smile :P. seriously though, The only important difference is esp. i'd rather have it, and be able to disable it, than not have it (pull fuse/relay). it's Excellent. With nice rubber esp is not a big deal (bogging in loose deep mud or sand) however with esp it feels like you could not wreck it if you wanted to. With crappier shoes i got bogged in sand that i can absolutely destroy now. (w/o esp i could barely make it several more feet then bog :P) And again, esp with the lockers you would want if your doing this kind of crap anyway = better than the same lockers w/o esp. (it's not significant but it is true, any one can apply the breaks to trigger the lockers while feathering the skinny pedal, but you don't have to) |

My 06 gets 30mpg+ on highway trips..... Good to know - I just remember a thread some time ago which talked about what could cause the 05s to achieve better mpgs than 06s. According to this thread it seems to be evenly distributed across 06s and 05s. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hlight=mpg |
