| Post subject: | Parts To Store Up? |
My local Jeep dealer is closing and I understand those that are closing will have only 30 days to liquidate stock--cars & parts. So I expect a glut of parts on the market and maybe more difficult/expensive to get them in the future. I already have 3 fuel filters and 6 oil filters. Don't know what else to add. I replaced the boost solenoid filter and those are not common. Any ideas about what parts to store to keep the CRD going for many more years? Maybe the 100K service set? |

I've gotten better parts prices online than local, and I expect that trend to continue (although I expect both to be higher) depending on what you've had done - turbo hoses, glow plugs maybe the new fuel head? Timing belt?, Fan belt? tensioner pulley's - check Mopar Parts America and see if you're getting a good deal. |

The dealers never seem to have CRD parts in stock these days anyway so I'm not sure what parts they'd have on hand to liquidate. |

Keep the CRD for a long time?-- See if they have 545rfe trans filter kits- these are gasser related parts as this trans is also common to mate with hemi engines. Roland |

What about wheel bearings and such things? I'm trying to be proactive here myself. Are there timing belt "kits" you can buy like there are in the VW TDI world? What about a spare MAP sensor? I hope we get some good feedback on this thread. I'd like to stock up on some parts just in case. |

Yup, bugs love eating them, I had my old Farmall BN filters destroyed by insects and had to toss them. Would be a shame if your fuel filter got moths, ants, post beetles, or termites that you did not see and you trashed out your CP3 pump. Mold, Mildew, and Fungus will also ruin filters. You may want to buy a big ammo box to put the filters in along with something to keep them dry and kill off any unwanted life forms. I would bet one of our Veterans may know some tricks that were learned in the military to keep your stash in great shape. |

Better to punt the mule now before you lose more than you've already lost. |

I wouldn't worry too much about parts availability. The CRD was sold in the US for only two years, but all over the rest of the world, they've been sold for years and continue to be sold. Even if Chrysler doesn't emerge from bankruptcy, you can bet that someone will see the potential to make big dollars from selling parts and servicing the millions of DCJ products on the road. Another thing to keep in mind is that the 2.8L CRD engine is used in many other applications around the world from utility to marine, so parts should continue to be available. |
