| Post subject: | FIXED (see my last few posts) OBD Codes P0698 & P1189 20 |
Most times I make a slow left turn I get the ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) Light and code P0698. It also comes in occasionally when accelerating. Cold (70 deg F, I'm in S Florida) and rainy weather seems to improve things. One code list said "sensor 3" P1189 usually comes in when I am driving slow in a parking lot. It also comes in occasionally when I'm doing 70. Some code lists say "Oil Switch Circuit" Local dealer is jeep only and clueless. They are closing. Still can't get them to tell me anything. Last time I took it in they said the codes were "Nothing" Any Ideas? |

Hmmm, neither of those codes are in gmctd's "KJ DTC" post in the tech section. Have you tried calling other dealers outside the area, who are not closing and are glad to still be in business, since the Fiat deal went through? They may be looking to pick up some new business. |

Well said. Are you familiar with the thread I am referring to, in the tech section? KJ DTC's? It's right here: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=40073 |
The Tech section is not for questions.
I realized my mistake but could not delete the post. I posted again in "Love that Torque". Speaking of torque. After the ETC light comes on, engine power is an unknown. Sometimes it has normal power and sometimes it acts like my old Volvo. I can usually reset the p0698 code with any of my 3 scanners but I can't put the ETC light out untill I stop and "reboot". Then things return to normal untill the next event. Al |

I have no idea about this one. This may seem like a dumb question, but have you checked your oil level? |

Talked to another dealer Remember when the lawmakers said OBD would make it possible for us to work on our own cars? I will figure this out. When I do I'll let you know how. Al |

Can you give more information about driving/ operating characteristics? Have you checked all the "normal" things to check when trying to resolve a situation with the CRD? Those codes are not standard DTC's from what I can tell, which means they're neither generic codes for all Chrysler OBD's like P0201 MAF unplugged, etc, but they are also not on gmctd's list in the tech section which means they are not CRD specific. Have you considered that your scanner is reading wrong? Maybe go by AutoZone and get them to scan it and see if it throws the same codes. |

Thanx for the hints. I took a quick look at the harness it is inside a plastic chanel. All 3 of my scanners give the same codes. Cheep harbor freight plug Deluxe harbor freight that reads Freeze Frame also Scangage II that can also grab the freeze frame data. I will post the freeze frame data as soon as we get this power plant back on line and I get some time off. I missplaced the notebook with my data. Al |

Where I'm trying to discribe is about 5 inches after the bundle of wires leave the plastic chanel and go behind the fuel filter/heater bracket. This only shows up on the 06 models because for some reason it's different. |

Joe; It had gotten so bad that the ETC light was coming on at Idle. I managed to get some daylight hours off yesterday so I went hunting. I demounted the filter, took the top of the bracket it mounts on loose and pulled it forward to gain access. There was a rub mark on the woven sleeving around the wire bundle. However; when I unwrapped the bundle, I could not find any chaffed wires. I re-bundled the wires wrapped them up good, repositioned sleeving and added a neoprene pad at the edge of the bracket just in case. I followed the wires to the other side of the engine and found some strands sticking out of the sleening and rubbing on the transmission dip stick tube. Again I could find no chaffed wires. I secured the bundle and kept looking. I checked all of the plugs on the harness including the ECU. They were not loose, but I pushed and twisted them in case they weren’t seated. I did not feel any movement. I noticed a ground connection at the firewall behind the Brake reservoir. (ECU Ground?) I was able to tighten the nut ¼ turn without much effort. The misquotes arrived, so I pumped the air out of the fuel filter and quit for the night. I have driven 75+ miles with no codes. Sometimes “Shotgun Troubleshooting” does work. My Guess … The ground or the ECU plugs. For now I am just glad to have my torque back. Thanx again Al |

By Joe I think I got it. Al That is absolutely crazy to think you could be getting those freaky codes simply from having a spotty ground connection from the ECU. Possible, but weird and relieving all at the same time. I wonder how many other CRD owners have given up on their tractors because of things like this? |
