i replaced my rear main last night and did it wrong... so now i have to order a new one... i have a question about a oring though...

there is a space plate that goes behind the rear main with an oring... i was wondering which way the oring was supposed to be facing... i neglected to notice when i removed it... i think it is towards the blick but i am not sure

thanks

An o'ring is perfectly round in cross-section, which is why it is called an o'ring, without a delimiter - the 'ring part has to do with the fact that it's form is a closed circle - now, if your example is circular and the sides form a <-type cross-section around the circle, then the closed side goes toward the pto flange, the open side towards the engine: flange < engine, where crankcase pressure will expand the seal, preventing leaks

when i first started reading i was like "what the f is he talking about" then i caught on... the o-ring resides in a groove on a spacer plate.... should the side of the plate be on the rear main side or the crank side... i think it was on the c..... as i was typing i remember which way it went... it goes towards the rear main....

thanks GM for your humor and your redundant 'splanation of an o-ring
and making me type it again in a better way to jog my memory
