On a road trip today, got a dashlight chime and soon after the ABS light came on........wasn't until 20 or so miles later I noticed the odometer wasn't rolling over anymore either.......no other lights illuminated on the dash, and everything else including the speedo works.........checked all fuses, wire leads, and connectors: all seemed fine........did a search, and seems it might be the rear sensor inside the diff????? Is that right????? Just checking to make sure before a tear into it or take it to a dealership.

There is a sensor inside the rear diff - reads the tone ring on the edge of the ring gear -
I think it's used by the speedometer and ABS so that's a likely canidate
you should be able to get to it from the outside (not certain about that)

The speedo along with the cruise still works just no odometer......could it still be the reaer sensor? Thought it was the brake switch at 1st, but the brake warning light on dash is not lit and the brake lights still work, ruling that out

i have fixed many kj speedometers with just the connector at the rear diff sensor
seems many times the e brake cables cut into it
and also coroded broken wires right at the connector
unook connector and pull terminals out for inspection.
[one at a time]

YES to the above question in previous post

I had my front abs sensors wires rub thru after tire rotation, same symptoms as you describe. It was a free tire rotation and ended up being two new free sensors

So, it might be the front sensor, if my speedometeris still working but not the odometer then right??? Ok then, I will check those tomorrow.

My rear diff sensor has failed 6 or 7 times, turns on ABS light and stops odometer.

I had this happen, and it was the front left wheel sensor. The wire had rubbed thru. It was routed around the spindle incorrectly.
It was like that when I got the Jeep.

ABS came on and odometer stopped incrementing (and mpg on the EVIC started declining FAST in accordance...) and the rear diff sensor was the cluprit. It's easy to check and not hard to replace.
