All of my dyno testing was done with an ECU that was flashed from dead stock by GDE. When I was thoroughly convinced that this was the way I wanted to go, I sent them my InMotion ECU to reflash. Upon receipt from GDE, it seemed to work fine, but delivered 3-4 MPG less than the one GDE overwrote from OEM.

I sent the former IM unit back to GDE for analysis. They informed me that after extensive review, they could not a single parameter or characteristic that seemed different from the ones they have flashed from unmodified OEM. Now, here's the remarkable part:

They told me that since I like how the one I have now performs better than the reflashed IM, that they would let me keep their "loaner" ECU and they would take my "IM" as an even trade!

(Any other company on the planet would have insisted that there was "nothing wrong" with mine and sent it back to me.)

Amazing........

Just heard it's in the mail for delivery tomorrow. They've added two more features. Fixed the gas gauge to be linear and raised the idle speed in 4 low for better crawl performance.

A linear gas gauge would be good. A linear temp gauge might be even better (hint). Are previous GDE customers eligible for these enhancements at reduced or no cost?

Here's what I got from them:

During the course of our development, we continue to improve upon various areas that we find to further improve upon the customer driving experience. As of Monday the 27th, we released what we call a “V2 Running Change” calibration that takes upon the GDE cal and adds further improvements to enhance the customer’s feedback. This process is similar to the OEM environment where as further refinements are made, they’re released to the customer after subsequent validation and verification. In addition to what you might have read and/or researched about the GDE tune, you’ll notice the following additional enhancements:

· Fuel gauge linearization: The original fuel gauge display was biased towards the full side so that it would remain there longer, giving the customer the false realization that you were hardly using any fuel. We have modified the fuel linearization so that between full and ¼ tank, the gauge will (within a few percent error) display the actual volume in the tank not including the 2 gallon reserve. Hence, if you were to fill up at ¾ tank, it should hold (20gal capacity – 2 gallon reserve) * .25 = ±4.5 gallons. We did this based on customer complaints that the fuel gauge was horribly inaccurate.

· Off-road driveability in 4-LOW: While the T-case is in 4-low, we found that raising the idle speed from 760rpm to 800rpm allowed the vehicle to very slowly climb a parking curb without the use of the accelerator. Based on our testing, this resulted in a much more effortless off-road drive. Additionally, the accel pedal torque map was revised for the 4-low setting to allow for a more linear application of torque while driving in inclement terrain.

· Vehicle driveability governors: This is just a refinement of our previous settings to have the drivetrain “clunk” less during aggressive tip-out maneuvers, especially in 3rd gear lockup.

Came today and I put about 40 miles on it. Very smooth compared to ORM. Gas gauge fix is nice. EVIC is showing numbers I can't believe. Filled up for accurate test.

Well mine has always done pretty well mileage wise. Honest 27 hwy. The EVIC always read 3 mpg high. I live north of the Springs, about 20 miles with 1000 feet elevation drop. I've reset the EVIC at home and driven into town before, usually read in the low 30s. The return trip, resetting in town, usually was around 24. Today I reset it at home and as I exited I25 it was reading 47. Filled up in town and reset again. Pulled into my driveway showing 37. No way I expect these numbers to be real but something good must be going on.

If you pay shipping for your ECU there and back - I believe that they will indeed add the additional features at no cost I understand. 8)

I've gone through 3 tanks of fuel since the GDE. As you can see by my sig, I've averaged 35mpg(click on image for more detail if anyone is interested). So a number like 37 can be very real.

Wow, very nice and congrats! I assume you are doing mostly hwy driving for each of those tanks?

I've also noted that most folks who get stuck in traffic delays seem to only lose .5-1mpg over the course of a tank. It seems that GDE has REALLY fixed the CRD's idling ability!

Just found this post, any idea how many happy customers GDE has had? I am thinking about doing it, I only live about 30min from them. Maybe I can just bring the ecu to them and they can flash it and I can head home and put it back in. Seems like a good place to deal with.

ANy one not happy with their tune?

I think the only thing someone might be unhappy with is a little less max power than InMotion. However, GDE will soon have a "hotter" tune available which will cause a stock TC (and apparently some SunCoasts, as well) to shudder like the IM Stage II does. I plan to reflash when I have installed the "Euro" TC and GDE has fully engineered their tune to work seemlessly with that TC.

Also, if you haven't installed SEGR yet, there's no need with the GDE tune.

This whole GDE thing sounds really exciting. Sounds like everyone is getting really good results with it.

I seem to recall them getting a bit blasted when they first posted about their new tune by some forum members, saying it was too expensive and unneeded. I'm glad they stuck it out and people chilled a bit and gave them a chance. It's always good to get new options, you never know who's going to come along with something that someday people will say they can't imagine having to do without.

yeah I was going to ask about the EGR in that post but I forgot. My EGR is screwed up (CEL is on with EGR code) and I was thinking about the SEGR but seeing as they can mod the EGR seems as if they can fool it too.

What does the GDE do with the EGR, shut it off? I want to shut mine off.

Thanks.

IIRC, yes. Check out their website and forum as it gives specifics on what their tune does.

I would echo alot of the positive GDE sentiment, especially the customer service and the improvement in manners, however I have not seen the MPG increases that others have, but I had to have the TCM replaced which may have affected the performance as it died a week after getting the GDE so I am undecided about my overall satisfaction.

No need to remove the ECM  They can do it through the OBDII port in less time then it takes you to remove it from the jeep  Consider me a happy owner :D

Nice! That makes it easy. How do you know this is this how they did yours? thanks.
