For those keeping track of how many CRDs are on U.S. roads, cross one more off your list. Yesterday my wife hydroplaned on I-95, couldn't pull out of it and wrecked. She checked out fine with the only identified injury being a sore neck. After a couple side to side swerves the Jeep slid into left concrete wall on canal bridge, bounced-off and rolled to a stop on right side with roof against concrete barrer on left. Her phone was soaked in Mobil 1 so a Samaritan let her use a cell to call me and I hauled-ass to the wreck site. The insurance adjuster hasn't arrived yet but I'd say its definitely totaled. All body parts are smashed and bent, all glass but rear gone. All the engine oil was on the ground and when they flipped it up the tow truck guy started it so he could straighten the wheels and then left it running and went to mess with his chains. I told him the engine had no oil and could he please shut it off, he said no. This is understandable, his priority is to get it off the interstate, not minimize damage. My wife is in good spirits today with a sore neck and we are both feeling very lucky. She is going to take over the TDI and does not want another Liberty. I am currently looking for a 7.3L F250 4D SB, if anyone knows of good one for sale please PM me. Here is a link to my for sale thread for CAT filter stuff: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=45581 Travis |

Man I'm sorry to hear that but I'm even more glad that your wife is OK. I've often thought about what it would be like to get "that call." Looks like the KJ holds up ok under pressure, then? Not sure of your location but If you want me to keep an eye peeled for an F250 down in Louisiana, I'd be glad to. (even though a Cummins is better. . . |

Yeah, the KJ did exactly what it should, absorb the impacts and keep the driver OK. There were no intrusions into the passenger area but denting and accordion action all over. Location is Palm City, South Florida, I'd appreciate ya'll looking, and am willing to fly and buy for the right truck at the right price, properly endorsed! I agree about the cummins but don't care for the wrapper. |

Yeah, I hear that. I tell you what, I'd love to get my hands on a Grand Cherokee CRD. Can't make the payments right now though, but I see them on Autotrader and Ebay for like $25k all the time, sometimes lower. I'm hoping that if and when my wife's Volvo bites the dust, we'll be in a position to get a GC CRD. That is a super-nice vehicle. |

How long did it idle before it was finally turned off? At the very least, I'm possibly interested in the long block, if you can get it back and are interested in parting it out... |

I got "that call" once from a EMT Glad your wife is OK but have that neck checked out If your going to part it out can I get in line for the ECM if it's a 06? Good luck dealing with the insurance adjuster. Joe |

I don't know how long he ran it for, couldn't bear to stand there and watch the poor VM that I'd babied be killed. We'll definitely look into the buy back and keep this thread updated. Hopefully the adjuster will be here tomorrow. |

I would'a fought him on it, it isn't his right to continue to damage the vehicle. Especially after getting the wheels straight, but he could just as easily dragged it onto the flatbed with them turned. I know, I had that happen to my sister's hybrid. The wheels were jammed, and they just dragged it up there anyway. That is something for the insurance to know about, but I'm sure they won't do a darn thing about it. The mindset in this economy has been "oh, just go get another one" instead of fixing the problems. Sad, wasteful, and stupid. Keep us posted. I know for a fact that my engine idled for a Loooooooooong time (20 minutes) before it damaged itself on that test drive. I can't believe the fool would have left it running while driving away to the yard. |

Sorry to here about your wife's accident and glad all is ok. Regarding the engine, I believe it maybe ok. There would still be some oil in it, as there are places it could pool when laying on its side. The internal surfaces would still be covered in oil film and if it was only run for 10 minutes or so I would think little or no damage would be experienced. Mobil One is pretty slippery stuff. The engine should have some second hand value. Good luck. |

My wife has has survived a wreck and I know the feeling. I purchased many bone yard engines when I was in the repair business and sound evidence does not lie. If the bearings are trashed there will be metal in the oil pan. I would always pull the pan and check before I would installed a Bone Yard Engine into a Customers car. If I did find metal flakes I would check the crank. Rod bearings are the last to get the oil and the first to fail. Onthehunt who is big on oil analysis may know if, it would be an option over pulling the pan. You may want to send him a PM if he does not chime in. |

Joe, this makes about the 4th time I've asked in this manner, each time the person just isn't interested in doing the buy back so that someone else can find a use for the drivetrain or jeep. Its more just like "cut me my check so I can move on" I only ask these days as a vestigial reflex. |

I'm glad to hear your wife is okay. Too bad the Jeep got trashed. Ironically, I almost bought it yesterday. Some dude blew a stop sign at a 4-way stopped. I looked both ways and I had started rolling while in the process of looking to the left again. I slammed on the brakes and there was probably a foot or less of space between my bumper the idiot barreling on. I wasn't a happy camper. I prefer it be a long time before a start a thread on this subject. And when that day comes, I hope it's because the Jeep is a rusted heap with a gazillion miles and died of natural causes. Unbeknownst to them, my wife and mother-in-law threw down the gauntlet...I have to keep it "forever" now just to prove a point. Good luck with the insurance adjuster. |

Sorry to hear about your Jeep. But it is very good that your wife is ok. Do have her get her neck checked. I been in several accidents, one I nearly died in at 19 years old. I know that drove my parents crazy. but in a lesser crash where I got hit from behind I thought I was ok on the scene but the next day my neck was so dam sore i could hardly move it with out pain. good luck with the insurance too, I have had good and bad times with them too. It depends on the person they send and how the company is about paying out. At any rate if you don't feel you are being offered a fair deal show why and stand firm. |

It will be a couple more days minimum before we will know more about the buy-back. We just returned from retrieving the license plate. Pics from wreck day and one from today follow. This is the jeep at the crash sight before it was moved. A Samaritan ripped the windshield out to make a way for her to get out but she ended up popping the rear glass and climbing out that way.
After tow guy pulled it upright just prior to engine start:
