Post subject:  ever Get questions at the pump?

I was away for the weekend camping. when I went to fill up at this little general store and filling station out in West Virginia all the attention was on me and my jeep. The Lady runnning the pumps and registers inside was not going to turn my pump on at first. She came out and Asked "HEY R U sure U want to be puttin Deezel in that?" My reply was "YES I sure do, I sure can't fill up with anything else or I won't be filling it again" half laughing as I said it. Then she says back to me "OK if your sure I'll turn the pump on....I just never seen one of those running deezel before."

Other customers that were coming in to fill up were asking questions about it too. All of the locals thought it was pretty cool.

inside when I paid they were all still asking more about it after wierdness of a diesel jeep passed. I thought it was kind of cool. I dont think I ever got that much attention just filling up.

Anyone else have something like that happen?

Imagine how many CRDs DCX would have sold if they had ever advertised that they sold a small diesel SUV that could out haul everything else that size and still get mileage in the upper 20s. Many dealers didn't even know about them.

ORM solves a lot of problems when the engine sounds like a Diesel instead of a sick gasser.

I usually get a head turn similiar to a confused dog followed by "That thang got a diesel in it? I didn't know they came with diesels." Once in a blue moon I'll get what kind of mileage do you get

I stopped at a turnpike service center one time and there was a group of motor homes traveling together parked to rest and drivers out talking to each others. I pulled up to the diesel pump and I hear them shouting something at me. So I thought I have some fun and walk over acting I'm stupid when they keep telling me not to put that fuel in there. I said what fuel and they said that I can't use diesel. I say to them I don't know but I heard that you get 30% better mileage if I use diesel and that and I was going to try it. They told me that I wouldn't get to far. I told them that I don't know about that but it been doing it for a few years now and seems to be working. At that point they knew that they been had and told me that they never seen such a vehicle. I then went back to the pump and filled it up.

Just today at a Valero the attendant came out from behind the counter and up to the diesel pumps to ask if I was aware that I was pumping D2... I joked that D2 was 12 cents cheaper than RUG so I wanted to save money. That really worried him and thats when I told him I was joking and that the Jeep has a 4 cylinder turbo diesel. Then the attendant remembers me and laughs when he ran up to me and tried to stop me putting D2 in my wife's Jetta TDI two weeks ago! "You got a diesel fleet there,, cool!"

The other day one of my neighbors was over commenting about the diesels in my garage. (I have the CRD, a VW TDI Jetta, and a Dodge Cummins). I said: "Ya, ain't it great! Everything in my garage has a turbo and an intercooler! How neat is that!"

LOL that is just too funny....I love it you had em  I have only filled near my house like 2 times at rutters where the diesel pumps are on the ends and where the islands meet to make and L shape, so there are 4 pumps that have a green diesel nozzel next to the Gas ones. I never get any attention there.

I have noticed if I am sitting parked with the engine running often if someone walks by and notices the sound of it as a diesel engine they do a double take.... so far no one has walked up to ask about it.

the day after I got it I was at a family picnic showing it off and I really was not all knowing about it and where everything was.. I didn't yet figure out what side the fuel filler was on then. As I was walking around it with my brothers and my dad I noticed it and opened the door. I never mentioned it was a diesel yet, Shawn who works around trucks says "wow so you never filled it yet?" I say "no remember I just got it yesterday with a full tank" then he sees the cap is green and asks "hold on does that got a diesel in it?" I say "yes it does" he comes back with "that is awsome you have to open the hood I want to see this"

not at the pump.... but i got pulled over the other day and my "provent" hose was hanging down so i explained what it was to the officer and that it was needed in a diesel vehicle and he was surprised to hear that it was a diesel... he was standing next to it while it was running... still got the ticket...

but at the pump once.... it was after i left work (i worked at a beer store next to a fuel station (same owner for both)) and at work i was making numbers for the newly added diesel pump prices... the one beer rep asked why i was making numbers and i told him.... so back to after work he saw me filling up at the station and shouted "hey don't fill that up with diesel!" joking around so i shouted back "diesel is supposed to be better on fuel mileage" and he came over to stop me as it was clicking off.... then i started it up and his jaw dropped at the power of the clatter.. then the 'splaining started.. and the show and tell

More often than not, I get looks and comments when I'm filling up with diesel. I've had attendants come running out, and I've had mechanics come out of the garage to stare at it. Whenever there is another diesel user at the pump, I always end up in a conversation with them.

The best was when I went to a truck-stop where there was only one small-nozzle diesel pump. I pulled in behind the old Mercedes sedan that was sitting there filling up and put it in park. The guy that was filling up his Mercedes kept stealing glances back at us in the Jeep, then back to his job of filling up. After he finished, he pulled forward and then parked as I pulled up to the pump. As I got out, the Mercedes driver got out and came back to me. "Is that thing a diesel?" After I explained that it was, he went back to his sedan and came back with his wife. They wanted a tour of the truck, asked about the tow rating, HP, torque, interior, etc., etc., etc.

Last time I got that was filling the Grand Cherokee. Guy on the other side was driving a Mercedes E-class and he look a little miffed when I explained that I had the same engine and bought my vehicle for only $28k...

I've gotten a few funny looks. Every once in awhile someone will ask about it, mileage, how I like it, etc.

I usually get "That thing's a diesel???"...followed by "When did they make that???"

Also known as: Chrysler's advertising campaign into the American diesel market...FAIL.

My WVO and #2 fill are side by side behind fuel door .Full service attendants only try to fill up once.....then they let me do it.After the shock of diesel questions ,then they ask what the other fill is for and how big the tanks are etc.....needless to say I always use the same station now for my 6.5 gallons of diesel a month.............H

I was up in NH last summer in Alton, outside of Wolfeboro... NH isn't full service, why do you go to those pumps? I didn't WANT to get full service on my way up there through NJ, the dang fools on the NJ Turnpike were yelling at me that they couldn't make the hose reach and I had to pull up to the "correct" pumps b/c I was blocking the trucks.

Yea... I had LOTS of confidence in them, especially since I had driven in with the engine RUNNING and they couldn't tell it wasn't a gas engine! Morons had been huffing exhaust fumes too long, I think.

Yea, I was right on the shore of lake Winne-whatzitsname in the cove just to the East of the Alton Bay cove. Can't remember the name, but there is a camp there that I was working at. It really was nice, but how about last summer with all the rain! According to what they said at the camp, wettest summer in like 15 years.
