Would it work if i traced the live wire to connect the fuel pump directly from the loom coming in / out from the relay box for an engine bay install. I'm assuming that it's the same wire exiting from the relay box all the way to under the rear seat that i would use if i installed the pump near the fuel tank.

Of course - many of the under-hood installations have done so. It's nice to have the safety feature of the fuel shutoff (etc) to prevent a disaster on those rare occasions where fuel should not be flowing...

Black Liberty came up with a quick way of doing it. Just remove the fuse, stick the wire into the leg with no voltage on it and putthe fuse back in holding the wire

I've fitted a Facet pump in the engine bay and located the fuel pump relay. I'm not sure which terminal to use on the relay, I've connected my multimeter to the female terminals and have 12.4V on 2 of the 5, but the one i'm using now still gives me 12.4V with the ignition switched off. Does that mean that the fuel pump is constantly under power and could possibly run my battery down.

Look carefully at the relay cover and possibly the bottom. Pin 87 is the switched (NO contact) voltage that comes in on pin 30 when the relay is activated and pin 87A is live when the relay is not actuated (NC contact). You want pin 87 the Normally Open contact.

Hope this helps

Okay i've located pin number 87.

What is the operation of the pump when connected and turning the ignition on and off.

Key off it should not run. Key on but motor not running the pump should run for about 25 seconds give or take then shut off. Engine running the pump should be running

Should i solder the pump live wire to the pin of the relay or is it okay to just insert the wire into the slot (5) and then push the relay in.

I ran several months with it just stuck into the slot as a temporary test to see if it solved my problems  If you soldered it the resulting "blob" might distort the pin in the power distribution unit

I soldered the tip of the wire to stop it from fraying and then pushed it into the slot and then pushed in the relay.

Working great thanks for the advice.

I've had a tinned wire (soldered the wire tip) inserted along with the relay, and have had 0 issues, i do need/want to go to a larger gauge and use a proper connector but i'm lazy. I've had this rigged for probably 14 months or so. It was a git-r-done thing when i moved my pump from near tank (installed tank skid plate) to near head.
