What is the latest opinion on the performance of the Provent now that some members have reported to have uninstalled it, others swear blind by it while some of us just did the EHM? Are the filters cleanable or are you replacing them? Who has had to replace CAC hoses whilst using the Provent? Has anybody had a blockage causing the relief valve to pop off? Would you buy another one if you had to? |

EHM is illegal in many places and generally bad for the environment. Are the filters cleanable or are you replacing them? Yes and I have replaced it once but you could get a couple of years out of one easily. Who has had to replace CAC hoses whilst using the Provent? Not had to replace hoses but Provent has been on since new and hoses are perfect. Has anybody had a blockage causing the relief valve to pop off? No Would you buy another one if you had to? Absolutely! |

Provent is awesome, drail tube fills kinda quick,so what does that tell ya about what is going in your intake? Filters are cleanable with mineral spirits or diesel,I believe. I've got the Samco's.Changed them same day as Provent.(No bright colors for me,went with black) No pop-of of relief valve. I definitely would buy another one if mine happens to blow up. I'll bump on the "good deal on provent" thread for ya. |

Provented for over 41,000 miles, starting at 2500 miles on the CRD. Average 1 oz of oil per 1000 miles of driving coalesced and in the drain tube. That's over 1 quart, 8 oz of blow by oil kept out of the intercooler and intake. At 26K miles I cleaned the boost/air temp sensor and it was full of dry soot instead of oily soot. I wouldn't run without it. Saw it on tdiclub.com in early 2005, thanks to the TDI enthusiasts who use them on their diesels. Answers 1. Yes 2. No 3. No 4. Yes. For an idea on what can happen when oil blowby and egr mix in the CRD intake, info is available on this site. Dieseltoyz posted this a while back about the condition of a CRD with 57K miles on it: Quote: I had to remove the cam pulleys as the intake was clogged with sludge from the PCV/EGR debacle. Removal of the intake requires pulling the cam pulleys and front cover...
There was so much in the intake, the runners were 80% clogged with goo. I ran my finger up in the intake and it was like putting my finger into a full jar of peanut butter. That amount of chemical cleaning would not be safe. The intake took me an hour to pull off... the engine has 57,014 miles on it. I purchased it for R&D for our kits so I am unsure of the driving habits but I verified the mileage when I went to initially look at the vehicle at the yard. It was a rear total vehicle and the cluster was still installed. They fired up the engine and revved it up. It seemed to run great so I bought it and took it to the shop. It was only after I began cleaning stuff up that I noticed the intake was so dirty. The MAP sensor was much like the ones here on the forums that I've seen. So I removed the intake flange and shined a light up in there and it was horrific! I probably removed over 2 cups of grime within 5 minutes of scraping with just my finger. It was then that I decided to remove the intake and have it hot-tanked. There's just no way to get to the runners without pulling the intake and hot-tanking it. VW Tdi's have this exact same issue so I was kind of expecting it. -Todd Thread is here: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... dbf1062e58 |
