| Post subject: | EVIC Problem |
EVIC "Miles to empty" display has always automatically reset whenever the Jeep has been refueled. However, after just filling up, it did not reset and is showing "22 miles to empty". There does not seem to be a manual reset option like changing the miles between service intervals. This is not really much of an issue, in and of itself. I'm more interested if it could be a harbinger of something more serious to come. Fuel tank cap was tight. Tried removing and replacing with no effect. Anybody have any ideas as to what may be going on? Thanks, DOC |

It does that with the GDE tune, particularly if you are on the highway. Once you drive those 22 miles, it will reset and read 700+ miles to empty |

My second CRD started doing that once it was GDE tuned. (Nonsensical numbers when the needle is pegged full. ) GDE is aware of it and looking into it. |

Gawd, that almost sounds like the TSB where Chrysler reprogrammed the coolant temp gauge to lie and not go past 12 o'clock unless you were on the verge of boiling over - just reprogram the EVIC to be grossly optimistic and display a "feel good" MPG number! And no, I'm not accusing anyone of doing that on purpose. |

WIth our vehicles that we've fitted EVICs into, we get the behavior that after filling back up, it seems to take a few minutes of driving before it returns to the full tank reading (miles DTE will be determined by your current avg fuel economy). We're also pushing the fuel economy reset button at every fill as well so that might affect the behavior. One of our employees has a 04.5 Ram with the Cummins, and the EVIC in that vehicle behaves the same way (vehicle is stock, too) so what we're seeing isn't completely nonsensical. We're going to review the issue and see if something can be done about it. |

GDE, At least in our case, the EVIC on our '05 CRD Ltd was factory fitted. I am now quite sure the problem is with your programming because this does not occur with the OEM ECU that gets reinstalled periodically before any trips to the dealer for warranty work. BTW, it does not reset until it hits "0 miles to empty" as another poster indicated. With the OEM ECU, it resets at any time the tank is filled, even partially. This really is not a big problem and if it allows some sort of enhancement where this feature has to be sacrificed, no problem. Thanks as always, DOC |

I've noticed that in mine, but it seems like after I park it for a while it resets. I have no control for my hypothesis, however, since I usually fill up last thing before heading home at night. |
