Post subject:  Ticking noise while hot

I am new to the list, have had my CRD and love it for the last 6 months.
about 3 months ago I started noticing an occasional tick, almost like a sticking lifter in a gas engine. It only occurs when it is fully warm and not all the time. Is anyone familiar with the noise and what it could be?

Thanks!

I have a mild "ticking" noise that i hear when hot and at idle, every 5 seconds or so it's kind of like a plastic grinding noise, i assume it's from the ccv puck. Going south perhaps, i have ehm so as long as i see a decent amount of vapor coming out, i don't care.

Does it sound metallic? does it sound like a electric motor?

It most likely is NOT a valvetrain noise, we don't have lifters. Our head is not cam in head, it's overhead cam :P. Our lobes hit the actual valve bridge.

I would look to egr or fcv

I really would not worry about it to much.

It sounds just like a gas car that needs a valve adjustment. But it is intermitent and is related to rpm in its speed. I'm not too worried, but it is just annoying enough.

Probably just injector noise. It is completely normal.

Ours does it all the time and has done so for a while. Someone here mentioned something about the oil pump. The first start up after I change the oil, the sound isn't there for 3 or 4 seconds then it's back. Seems to be very common and harmless. If it were an injector, I'd have it checked as that isn't normal for a correctly functioning injector and can be a sign of failure.

Been a few years, I know. But I have what sounds like the same issue with an engine ticking noise that sounds exactly like what you described. What did you ever find out?

I have had a similar issue, and my research has come up that it is pretty common and harmless as far as most people know. I would love to hear if there is any other current info on this from anyone else though. It is slightly concerning to me, but I have had this ticking that has been described for over two years...

Mine has done this for a long time, and over many miles. Comes and goes, and has never gotten worse. I always assumed it was injector noise as that is what it sounds like. Not too worried about it.

I was just thinking of this as I heard a ticking yesterday but nothing today. Must be harmless.
