Lets hope it's not vapor ware.

Inside this article

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/2009 ... p-to-$5.7B

There is this line:

"Also, a Jeep Wrangler with a diesel engine and a start/stop system that saves fuel when the engine turns off while the Jeep is in idle, is due by the end of 2011."

It does not mention the NA market specifically, but that seems to be the implication. Would be nice.

Yes, I know its not a CRD KJ so its a little off topic for this forum (my apologies), but I figured the Lib CRD crowd would be interested in this so I posted it here.

Post subject:  Current Jeep CRD models in Europe

Just came back from Europe where Jeep offers the following line of 2009 models:

2.0 liter CRD Compass and Patriot ( 2 models)
2.8 liter CRD Wrangler (5 models- manual and auto )
2.8 liter CRD Cherokee (2models) this is our Libbby
3.0 liter CRD Grand Cherokee ((4 models)
3.0 liter CRD Commander

Yep, we get those models here in Australia as well. The Wranglers and the KK Cherokee are the same VM engine as the KJ has (albiet with updated injection and torque figures like 460nm). The Commander and the Grand are using that same 300C (Mercedes) diesel that has the 'O' ring problem (well at least the Chrysler version has the problem).

The JK diesel w/ start-stop is BUX only. There aren't any diesel products planned yet for NAFTA, but I *think* you'll see them in the next few years hopefully...

The engine in the current JK/KK shares nothing with the KJ engine other than the bore and stroke. It's a new engine from the ground up, and is really truely a nice engine to work with...

I don't care what Chrysler puts a diesel in, I will never buy a Chrysler product again with they way they 'treated' the Liberty CRD. I went in knowing it was a 'test market', but I didn't expect half assed or ignored fixes.

I hope we get a few vehicles with diesels soon!! I am sorry you feel that way about Chrysler. I hope with the new leadership coming in, and now having a real plan for the future that thing will work out better. I know the fuel system and egr is a big pain in the butt. Although I have had most of my problems with the dealerships I was dealing with. It took almost 3 years and 35,000 miles before I found my third dealership to fix my problems. They were great and have earned my trust as a customer. If I buy another Chrysler product it will be from there.

RTStabler and I share the same opinion. I have a great opinion of VM, especially after being able to talk directly with their USA rep, I know the problems were of Mopar's own stupidity. I had a small voice in my head saying do NOT buy a chrysler, but I didn't listen b/c I also had my needs of an suv for gear hauling and towing power... So it had to be a diesel with good economy.

Sadly then (and still now, and probably for the foreseeable future) the ONLY option was our KJ.

Sad. Such an opportunity WASTED by the idiots who ran Mopar into the ground, and I expect nothing different from this next crew... Because they are cut from the same cloth.

Dito here :!: But they at least "tested" a diesel SUV and that's more then ford or gm did.
I've read good things about the top dog of Fiat and think there will be changes.. good or bad
Danoid's response about no upgrades for the our TCM programming does not sound good for us

The Ford US market is about to come to light.

I will be keeping the KJ CRD for a long time most likely. I am more interested in a super high mileage diesel automobile with a bit of grunt...like a Mini Cooper with a high tech turbo diesel...

I think the real problem you guys have is the FUEL.

We in Europe have NO egr problems....not on the 02'-04's, not on the 05'+.

Your government should get their head out or their .$$ and stop comparing high powered small diesel engines with Cummins or whatever 7ltr+ diesels that belong in a thug boat.

Why oh why don't you guys get the same quality diesel as we do...

Don't they understand that the crap diesel is the real problem?

Banning the 2.8 of the US market (for being a threath to the environment)...But then you do approve of 18 wheelers and huge pick-ups that pump out even more crap?

Sorry, maybe to political but I don't get it. Rant over..

Nope, the site is going weird on us again....

The site logged me out again, dunno whats going on. But the fuel in the USA is a huge problem. A larger problem is the idiots at the EPA who let Kalifornia's Air Resource Board dictate policy for the rest of the USA. They have been on a religious crusade for YEARS to eliminate diesels. Yes, the air is better now than 15 years ago. I don't dispute that. BUT the largest polluters are the INDUSTRIAL complexes... And now the "boogeyman" gas is Carbon Dioxide, when 15 years ago it was NOx.

By far, the largest producers of carbon dioxide after heavy industry and power... Is CONGRESS. Transport is far down the list, at least as output percentages go. Capping a single coal powerplant to the same emission levels as transport, has been equated to permanently removing over a MILLION cars from the roads. I'm sorry I don't have a direct link for that right now, but I have seen it more than once in different places.

Weird... It is now 9:30pm EST, yet my last post (that I just sent) is tagged over 2 hours BEFORE I sent it.

And I have now gotten "invalid session - please resubmit" twice when posting tonight.

And this one was posted at 9:32, yet says 7:32. ????
