Innova 3160 does appear to read and clear (with several tries) ABS codes on our '05 CRD. However, just like my Innova 3120, it will not communicate with the ECU or the TCM.

flman,

Does your 3160 talk to your ECU?

So, I am using an Innova 3030 to read and clear ECU codes and the 3160 for ABS codes.

Nursecosmo, I believe, has a 3130 that reads ECU codes on his, so it seems there may be some differences among our rigs.

Mine connects, reads, and clears ECU codes. Here is how I connect:

3160 off
pug into OBDII connector
3160 self powers on, wait for prompt
turn on ignition, don't start vehicle
press the connect button (upper right)

Is you software in the reader at the latest level?

I feel kind of bad it don't work for you, it works in both of my 06 CRD,s?

flman,

Is there a software version notation on your's? (Mine says version 1.00, 2008 IEC when you boot it up. It came with a CD that says Version 1.34.)

There are differences between '05s and '06s. My guess is that my 3120 would work on your '06s to read ECU codes. Anyway, I only needed something to deal with ABS codes. It's not a problem that I have to use 2 different scanners. (Would be nice to have something for TCM codes, though.)

Yes, I have the same version of software. There is a couple of StarScans on Ebay $3000 each, if we were all neighbors, we could pool our resources and buy one.

Get this, my son was checking the fluids in his 97 VW Passat VR6 today, and he said he had an ABS light on, I told him to go get the scanner. So we plug it in to find his engine has 8 - P0300, P0301, P0303...... etc. faults, after several tries, I was able to clear them with the 3160. I was very surprised it made any communication with his car, let alone clear them? But the ABS was pretty useless, VW is not covered. You should probably try to connect to the ECU again? Don't give up

BTW, did you test it on any other vehicles? Maybe you got a bad scan tool?

I have a VAG-COM with CAN as I've had several VW's over the years. When hooked to my 06 CRD is works fine for all engine related readings and will clear codes at least the egr codes I had before the egr valve was replaced.

Does your scanner see your ECM at all? The reason I ask is before the F37 flash there was one that caused CRD's not to communicate with third party scanners and there was a Recall (F-31) for that as they were out of EPA cpmpliance :D
