Post subject:  Need help - p1854 tip baro out of range

My 2006 CRD has the check engine light on. The error code is "p1854 tip baro out of range". The engine has very little power, probably 1/2 of what it should have. The check engine light went on last week and the drop it power was immediately noticeable. No sure how to solve the problem. My 2nd problem is I have also started to use some oil over the last 12000 miles, about 1 litre per 2500 miles and I get some smoke when it starts cold. Seems a bit excessive to me? I have done the SRM and EHM. Thanks.

P1854 is a plausibility check for the intake pressure sensor (located on the side of the airbox) and the atmospheric pressure sensor which is located in the ECU. Generally this fault is set if either the wiring connector at the sensor is loose (they have a poor fitting clip in some cases), the sensor is bad, or you have a very dirty air filter.

The fault should be clearable by a scan tool which will clear the limp mode as well and you should have full power back. If you clear the fault and you still still have a lack ofpower and lots of smoke you'll need to check the air induction system for leaks.

Thanks. I checked the air filter and it is clean. I checked the tip wiring connector and it seems fine, clean and secure. I cleared the code with the scan tool and then a new code came up, "P1189 inlet pressure sensor low". Is this the same TIP sensor?
