| Post subject: | 4 Recalls on 2006 Liberty CRD. Which should I get completed |
My 2006 Liberty has following uncompleted recalls: SAFETY RECALL G03 – BLOWER MOTOR The infamous: CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION F37 SAFETY RECALL F23 – LOWER BALL JOINTS and CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION F21 It has ~46000 miles and and has 1.5 years or 24000 miles left on the Chrysler extended warranty. I would like advice as to which ones to have done. I would appreciate any advice. I've looked back through one and a half years of posts on here, and I'm really concerned about taking my Liberty in for any work at the dealer. I would appreciate any recommendations or advice anyone can offer. |

My suggestion is to take it in for the ball joint recall for sure. But buy a spare TCM (transmission computer) first and keep your current TCM at least 10 miles from the dealer to avoid the dreaded F37 virus. |

Doesn't the F21 go hand-in-hand with the F37? Is it the one that addresses the glow plug issue? |

F21 has f37 afaik, stay away. I have an 06 that received f21 and f23 in November of 2008 No firmware past f37 exists without f37 If they came up with recall/re flash for us tomorrow to fix the fuel gauge, it would have f37 as part of it. As i understand it it downloads the most current and complete flash over the network every time it flashes. |

If they can't understand or won't only do the Safety recalls (since the customer satisfaction ones are voluntary) I would walk. |

Some information to consider: If you take your vehicle to a dealer, they are required to complete any/all open recalls. This is done regardless if it is still under warranty or not. Even if you take your 10 year old car to the dealer, and their computer finds an open recall on it, the dealer will do it automatically. These are extra money for the techs (but not usually worth the time to do them), and required by the manufacturer (who is responsible to make sure safety recalls are completed on every active vehicle). Recalls are (usually) safety related repairs/modifications that are mandated by the government. This does not apply to Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) or any courtesy repair items. Sometimes, tech/service departments can get away with doing TSBs automatically by adding an additional customer complaint line to the service ticket relating to the TSB, then doing the "repair". This is frowned upon by the manufacturer, and may get the dealer in trouble if it is shown to be a consistent pattern with a particular dealer/tech. Reflash TSBs/recalls generally are considered "gravy" items for the techs for various reasons, so they are prone to do them whenever possible. So, bottom line, I know the ball joint problem was a "recall", but is the F37 a recall or a TSB (looks like a "customer satisfaction" item (TSB) to me)? However, (as I'm thinking about it!) one of the flash updates was definitely a recall, forget which one, but it addressed the OBDII generic scanners not being able to pull codes/data from the PCM. I believe that if your vehicle gets flagged as not being done while you're at the dealer, they will flash the latest flash package into the vehicle that includes F37 and they can't do it any other way (there is only one flash package available, and they can't flash an older flash package). Hope this info helps if the F37 issue is a concern for you. |

Thanks for all the help everyone. I really appreciate it. One more thing I forgot to mention is that some work was done at the dealer before I bought the vehicle. Can anyone tell me what this sticker means?

That sticker means that on that date, the car was connected by a dealer to their system and something was updated... I don't know when the F37 was first created, but you should take a drive in your Jeep and see at what speed it shifts into 5th gear. If it shifts BELOW 60 mph on the speedo... Send me a PM. I have a spare TCM module that I can sell you that has already been 'fixed' (just like a DOG is fixed) by Mopar... So IF you want to take your Jeep to the dealer, you can swap out the GOOD TCM (yours) and keep it WELL protected. The process takes less than 10 minutes and 1 wrench. If it shifts ABOVE 60mph... Then your TCM has already been neutered, and we will all shed a tear for yet another ruined potential. What it means is that the dealer put the sticker on, but didn't update the VIN database in their system. Entirely possible that this is the case. I hope for your sake, the F37 really hasn't been done. |

Can anyone tell me what this sticker means? ![]() I don't know what that sticker means but there was an early version that did what F37 but was not F37 released in June 06 I bought mine in late May 06 and had a coolant leak taken care of in early June 06. At that time it got the early release of the neuturing software (same torque reduction and shift points) that required the F31 What important information you need to determine was when your build date was. Before November 05 it came with a torque converter that should have failed long before now. But after that you should be ok. Now if you've got a pre 11/05 build then the F37 recall SHOULDl get you the new "europan" torque converter and the dreaded flash. In this case get a spare ECM and let them flash away when they replace the TC and suggest they replace the obsolete front pump and cover while they're in there |

Thanks for the help everyone. My build date is 08/05. It shifts into 5th at 52 MPH and turns ~1800 RPM at 55 MPH. So it seems that the TCM has not been "neutered" yet. If in fact I do have an unneutered TCM, I should get a spare TCM, install it, take the Liberty to the dealer and have the recalls done. Regarding the F37 recall, they should give me a new "euro" spec torque converter right? What else should I ensure that they do? |
