I was about to get new winter tires installed on my CRD when the tire dealer mentioned I may have regrets...

Mainly, because these are Toyo WLT1 215/85/16, with ride quality. Load rate is E with 10-ply, making these heavier, harder (PSI) and also impacting the MPG rating.

Mind you, I must buy winter-rated because of a new law passed last year, making it illegal to have 4-season or summer tires after Dec. 15th, until March 15th.

I still have to make a decision and was wondering if any members would like to share their take on this subject...

Well that is a load of crap

Sure a E rated tire may effect your mileage a little with the CRD, but there are ways to re coop that

Snow tires are not mandated per se, but all tires in use between dec 15 and mar15 must have winter capability. Four season AT tires such as General Grabber at2, Bridgestone Duller Revo, etc, all meet the legal requirements if they have the snow flake symbol. In fact pretty much most tires which would normally be found on a Jeep qualify.

The regulation, adopted on September 17, 2008, defines tires specifically designed for winter driving as those that meet one of the following criteria prior to December 15, 2014:

Tires on which one of the following inscriptions appear: Alaska, Arctic, A/T or AT Blizzard, Ice, LT, Nordic, Snow (but not mud and snow), Stud, Ultratraction or Winter
or

Tires on which the icon representing a mountain with a superimposed snowflake appears.

LT? So anything that is a Light Truck tire, and pretty much the only tire that is excluded is the P-rated BadYears that were the stock offering? Coolness. I don't have the need for tires like that, but if I ever move to those places, at least I know my BFG tires will be good.

I just got E rated tires. Sure I lost a little MPG's in town and it does ride a little bit stiffer, but I think it rides like a Jeep more so now than before.
