Post subject:  Fuel filter Head leaking LOSS IN POWER

Hey I had a loss in power out of the blue on the highway yesterday. I tryied priming the fuel filter and was good for another 20 miles. After further investigating pulled off fuel heater plug and saw fuel coming out as I prime it. There are no dealers in the Sacramento area that have one for a couple weeks. I went ahead and filled hole with epoxy. If this holds up can I just run it like this? Do I really need a heater option hooked Up? It is around $150 from the dealer to get the part I need.

Thanks Kevin

Although the newly re-worked factory units supposedly resolve the leaking issue, if you're out of pocket on it, you might just want to go with something like this:

Frankly, you're probably fine with your heater disabled (What are your winter low temps in Sacramento?). If anything you may want to add a little anti-gel if it gets below 0F or if you're running any biodiesel blend at about 20/30 degrees higher, but that's good advice regardless of heater.

Our temps in Sacramento rarley get below freezing. Currently this week temps have been in the mid 20's but I keep Jeep parked in garage. Could I be in a bind if I am up in the mountains what would happen if fuel got to cold? Just hard to start??

It essentially clouds over and becomes slightly viscous (think gel) in the fuel lines. I had it happen once when I was running B100 too early in the year (freak May freeze) and all was well after a couple buckets of warm water, a blow dryer, and waiting for the sun to come out and warm up the lines.

The heater only works when the engine's running, though. Although it'll help keep cold fuel at a more optimal temperature, it does nothing for an overnight freeze. You're likely fine regardless unless you run HIGH percentages of Bio when it's cold (like I stupidly did).

Post subject:  hey thanks for the info

Jeep has been running just fine with my temp repair the last few days, I think I will leave it alone for now and save my cash.
