I've had a couple of instances in the past when the motor (2.8CRD) suddenly started running on 3 cylinders (at least, that's what it felt like, rough as guts and no power) and then just as suddenly corrected itself, maybe 10-15 minutes later, and ran perfectly for months after that. But this week's glitch was a real doozy. It started Thursday morning around 10:30am. I'd just done a 180km run out to look at a pipeline route (what a surprise) when I felt that the motor was sluggish pulling away from a standing start: I then discovered that it was rev limiting at 3000rpm. It carried on like this for a couple of hours - no guts below 2000-2500 and incapable of revving over 3000 - then around 12:30 it suddenly corrected itself and has been fine ever since. It's got me beat - any suggestions anyone? |

You probably have two problems. The intermittent rough running may be a sticky EGR valve. The second issue which you mentioned, is likely air or fuel filter related. If you can pump the fuel primer and it isn't hard, you have air in the fuel. The next thing to check is the fuel filter. It probably needs changing anyway so I'd just do that as a mater of course. |
