Article in the current 4wd and Sport Ute. Sounds like a pile of work since they moved all of the electronics, plus jk axles. http://www.4wdandsportutility.com/featu ... index.html Anyway the really interesting part is that they installed a 6 speed manual tranny. No detail at all, other than it is a getrag...hmmm. Maybe the 420G? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getrag_420G_transmission |

It’s easy if you’re gifted and talented, plus have the shop, tools, and the know how. I looked into it, except I was going to swap the KJ 2.8 VM into a JK Wrangler. It would be cheaper and easier for me to buy a salvaged OE Euro 2.8 VM from overseas and do the install. Then you have a factory-like install JK diesel. |

That trans is more than likely the NSG370 since that would've been the stock box in both a manual KJ CRD and the TJ. Reasons why the KJ manual never came here vary, but one of the forerunners is that the manual trans would require a separate EPA certification, durability, drivetrain development, etc. and that cost is hard to recover sometimes on small-volume applications. |

Sooner or later you will have to get rid of the EPA and their bias against diesel or we will all be riding bikes. |

Expensive to produce, and the usa has some of the strict's requirements on diesel's. The TJ diesel is stuffed. They would have to do a lot of work to get it massed. Also the tranny used was more than likely the Rubicon 6 speed. |

Also the tranny used was more than likely the Rubicon 6 speed. The "rubicon 6 speed" is the NSG370, which is also the same manual trans offered in the KJ. The difference is that the bellhousing bolt pattern is different between the KJ and the TJ(4L). Also the NSG370 trans has an integrated bellhousing, meaning you must use a KJ NSG370 or NV3550. Also, if you had a NV3500 bellhousing(like I do) you could use a AX15 from an older XJ. |

And I will argue with them as well. I had an AX-15 and it was complete doo doo. I have tons of friends that have swapped theirs out as well, for the same reason or another.\ Sorry again, I have to edited myself. You are right, for some reason i have been a block head the last two days. Think the darn pain killers are working ha ha. Anyways the AX-15 is a great tranny and can handle up to 300hp and 300 ft of tq. The ax-5 is the weak one. |
