Post subject:  My CRD is still bouncing like driving on segmented concrete

I have fixed the sticking caliper, and had 2nd and 3rd opinions that the brake system, suspension, and steering ckeck out ok.
Dodge said the transmission is normal.

I have been putting on some miles on trips around 100 miles. Mileage seems good at ~27 on the EVIC. And no break down.
But I get and bounce that is jerky that feels like a wheel is bent but the rhythm rotates at a lessor speed then the tires. It feels like front end, and I get pull to the left(I have to put pressure to the right on the wheel to keep straight). :furious:

I decided I would rule out the rear drive shaft (since it had new u-joints and had been balanced), rear transfer case bearing, differential, and rear axle bearings.

I had it in Full Time when I pulled into my garage, but with the rear drive shaft removed the Jeep won't move in either direction? I thought someone told me I could test the rear drive shaft this way?

Also, when I put it back into park I get gear a grinding to a halt before it locks into park!!!

The spline shaft coming out of the rear of the transfer case has a clicking and 1/8" movement when pushed/pulled on.

Thoroughly check the front tires for a bulge or bubble. If you don't see or feel anything, try rotating the tires front to back. It could be a ply separation in the tire.

Check your drive shaft.

When mine was doing that it was the joints in the rear drive shaft that were bad. Worse at slower speeds. :grim:

sounds like an out of round tire or even a bent rim. You also need to make sure tire pressure is correct (use the pressure rating right on the tire) and get the alignment checked. And if it's actually bouncing at highway speeds, then your struts or shocks are no longer doing the job. Sometimes you will see a car/truck where a wheel is bouncing rapidly at highway speeds, that's a clear sign the shock or strut is gone.
As for the shaft, it should have some smooth in/out movement but not be sloppy. the u-joints need to be checked for slop and need to be well lubricated. I would suggest using synthetic grease (I swear by it) too.

Yeah that is going to happen if your in full time and remove one of the driveshafts(doesn't matter what one either) and then attempt to drive away. The select trac when engaged in full time 4wd with one of the 2 driveshafts removed will send 100% of the torque to the t-case output that is not bolted to a driveshaft(think open diff).Pop that sucker in part time and drive away with the front shaft only to do your little test. Lucky you didn't break that parking pawl doing what you did, sure wore it down some though :-)r .

YA KNOW. I missed your part about the drive shaft. sorry

Maybe something simple like Living here in WI and it being cold my tires get a flat spot from sitting.

If your tires are flat spotting and are radial tires you got some tire issues, bias ply tires it's understandable(and expected) but not acceptable for radial tires.

Nylon cord is more susceptible to flat spotting but rayon, polyester and other replacement fibers don't set like nylon. Hence the lack of nylon for passenger tires but it's still used for heavy duty truck tires. Besides that would account for the out of balance feel but not the "pull" to one side.

Dont know anything about that but do know they feel like they have flats spots for the first 20 or so miles when it's in the teens or colder. P235/75R16 106S OWL DUNLOP ROVER RV XT

Once the warm up, do they feel ok? Do they pull all the time? If they do rotate front to back to eliminate a defect in the tire. If the pull goes away you got a bad tire!

I get very bad tire bounce after both of my vehicles have sat all night in -20 below zero weather. My truck has Bridgestone Revos and my Jeep has new snow tires. They are both radial tires. After a couple of miles they smooth out.
