Warning, Redneck Racing mods ahead. A few people have heard about my intercooler-to-intake hose finally splitting on me after 72k miles of abuse from the CCV oil... Well, I didn't have the green available for the Samco hoses, and I needed to fix it fast. I visited my local Industrial Hose and Hydraulic place, where I knew they had some great pure silicone hoses that I had gotten in the past, and picked up a few feet for this repair. Add 2 45 degree elbows from my favorite auto parts store, Home Depot... Some hose clamps, and you get this: ![]() Works great, cost only about $15 total, and has put up with full boost for several thousand miles now! |

A true redneck would build it out of duct tape (maybe some cardboard for forming and support) |

Does gorilla tape count? I did try using the original split hose as a base to wrap with stretch silicone and then gorilla tape... Didn't hold worth a dang. The pressure, combined with the extra bends in the factory shape caused it to expand lengthwise under pressure and 'poof' pushed itself off the intake side. Did that 3 times before I gave up on it and did this with the PVC elbows. I tried making the PVC match the exact shape of the factory routing, thats how I discovered why the gorilla tape version failed. The pvc elbows didn't let go of the silicone, but when the pressure went up, the tubing wanted to expand... And POOF again. With an almost-straight link, the lengthwise expansion pushes against both the engine and the intercooler, so no disconnection. I'm pretty happy with the PVC too, it hasn't shown any signs of softening or degrading from the heat in there. Gotta love redneck engineering, even if I skipped the duct tape.

That's a nice simple fix. I think you need more clamps. If you put enough of them on there, you can get rid of the expansion. As long as you keep the oil out, this could last a long time. Pure silicone itself doesn't fair well against oil. To get around this, Samco and others have an inner liner based on a fluorosilicone polymer which has good oil resistance, but is expensive. The outer layer will be normal silicone. |
